Do you want gifts or punishments at Christmas ?: the legend of Krampus
All (or almost all) have for opinion that Christmas is completely magical; are those dates where the family gathers to celebrate, give and receive love, to reflect on the year that slipped by our fingers like the fine sand, to savor the exquisite food without remorse, to contemplate the lights (that I love), to decorate the tree, and of course, how to forget the children's longing for Santa Claus and the gifts he has in his big bag.
For me that means the Christmas, and I think it's nice to imagine it in such a hopeful and happy way, however not everything is the color of roses on christmas, because by going a little further into the past, we can see that there is a certain legend that can to scare anyone when encountering such a being, is nothing more or nothing less than the shadow of beloved Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus.
We can see that so charismatic Santa Claus goes down the chimney of each house at Christmas with the purpose of leaving good children, gifts as a reward for their good behavior. It is said that with bad children is the opposite, Krampus is seen a demon who takes naughty children to hell to eat them. It is really chilling to imagine such a demon in my house for being bad in my childhood, hahaha, but well, it is a way to give a good scare to those young people who need a little hard hand (and traumas too).
I appreciate not having met this demon in my childhood because I will have been trauma. A fact is that in all my childhood I did not refer Santa Claus to that angel or Christmas spirit that left me gifts, but to the child Jesus.
This legend I remembered it again in a film I saw recently named Krampus, that shows us what this terrifying character does to those people who completely lose hope in the Christmas.
Despite such tales from the past (they have always seemed extremist and bizarre), we should not let ourselves get too carried away by this.
