Monomad: Buffalo

in #monomad7 years ago (edited)

My entry to #monomad hosted by @monochromes is the buffalo. In black and white.

I like black and white pictures because they give a feeling of timeless and show a mystery and depth not always present in color.

With no color, the light stands out.

As I have mentioned many times, I live within a kilometre of the Buffaloland Park where the magnificent buffalo roam.

As I was pasting by on the highway, I noticed some of the herd in the wooded area of the park and I stopped to take a few photos.

This one is wondering what I am doing invading the territory.

Such magnificent creatures! I don't think I have ever seen one that close in person, but I would love to some day. They aren't really common in this part of the country, so a good reason to travel out West. ;)

Thanks @plantstoplanks! I love seeing the buffalo and never tire of visiting them at the park.

We dont have buffalo here!!! Mad crazy cows yes buffalo no... lol

Hi Liz. we have some mad crazy cows around here too. 😂

That's a great shot! I think a buffalo is a great choice for black and white.

Hehe! Yes! He is wondering why you are taking up his air! I have only seem buffalo out west, and sparsely at best. The no color rules works wonderfully here, taking advantage of the light.

I must say that I would never have thought it, but, I actually favor the sepia becuase it truly does look timeless there, in fact, it could have been in my grandparents time. It truly gives it that old fashioned, yesteryear look that works so well with a nearly gone at one time species.

Great shot!

Happy Saturday!

Thanks so much Denise and for your generosity! The buffalo are normally quite peacefully unless there is a baby calf in their midst. They are very protective then or if anyone invades their territory.
The sepia could have been taken in the olden days when the buffalo freely roamed the plains before they were senseless slaughtered at a terrible rate.
Tha calf stays an orange color for awhile. This is part of the same herd.

Both images are outstanding. I like the black and white photos for the same reason. You said it so well, timeless.
