Caturday: Red and Hurricane Watch.

in #caturday7 years ago (edited)

My cat Red is keeping an eye out for the hurricane. He is wondering what happened to the Blue Jays and Juncos that are usually around in the morning.

I like how the shadow of his ear looks like he’s giving the coming storm the finger.

The sky has darkened and looks ominous. Except for the trees starting to sway the world is silent. No hummingbirds near the feeders. There’s not a sound of a bird chirping or any critters outside. I hope they stay safe in the woods.

Hurricane Dorian has devastated the Bahamas and heading up the Atlantic coast. The hurricane has reached and battered North Carolina, bringing wind gusts of more than 100 mph to the Outer Banks and more than a foot of rain to eastern parts of the state.

At present Dorian is heading northward towards Nova Scotia and will empact Prince Edward Island in Canada. According to the models it will pass directly over my area as a category 1 with winds of 140 km/h and gusts of up to 165 km/h.

The stores were full of people yesterday. Water, batteries, flashlights and food were flying off the shelves.

It has been suggested:

  • Consider unplugging larger appliances to prevent electrical issues during and after the storm.

  • Have access to at least three days’ worth of supplies for each member of your household (including pets) in case you’re unable to leave your home.

  • Fill up the bathtub with water for use as the power will probably go out.

  • Put all lawn furniture, planters, garbage cans and anything that isn’t tied down into a shed or garage.

  • Make sure your pets are safe inside.

  • Check the sump pump ( if you have one) to make sure it is working.

While Red keeps an eye out for the hurricane, Hubs and I will make sure we have battened down the hatches and wait for Dorian to pass.

Location: Prince Edward Island, Canada

Glad you have your cat Red in safe! It must be a little eerie waiting for a hurricane to hit!
Have you ever had hurricanes in your area before?
Dorian sure is causing havoc - I had just heard that it was moving up to the coast of Canada and now reading your post makes it all a little more real.
I live in the shelter of the forest so I have never witnessed such massive winds. Keep safe!

🎁 Hi @redheadpei! You have received 0.1 STEEM tip from @dswigle!

Oh dear my thought are with you guys, hope Dorian will turn to sea , and cat is beautiful

Thanks so much, @brittandjosie! 💝

Gotta love that single cat ear shadow! :-)
Hope all will be mild there ❤ @redheadpei!
Boulders help hold things down real good lol
This is my favorite weather map site, it zooms
in and out and has lots of functions.
Hurricane sure moved up fast since yesterday.
Hopefully it will slingshot out to sea!
Red sure is beautiful, take good care my friend!

Thanks Shasta and for the weather map. 💕 I ‘m happy you loved the one ear shadow and I’m sure @melinda010100 would too. 😂

According to your map, there is another hurricane (Gabrielle) out in the Atlantic but it’s predicted to stay out to sea.

The wind is moaning and picking up now. Trees are swaying and the leaves are still green-I don’t know if there will be any left on the trees by morning.

That is a fun shadow! Hope you make it with no damage from this storm that never seems to end!

Be safe @redheadpei! Heed the warnings, being over prepared is the key! It's always amazing the way the birds and little creatures know something is up....it's in the air! We'll keep you in our prayrers!

Thanks @birdsinparadise and for your kind thoughts. 💕 So true about the outdoor critters knowing something is up. I haven’t seen the birds or rabbit today.

Hubs and I are hunkering down with the two cats, Red and Sunday. I hope we don’t lose power as I want to watch the U.S. open tennis match on TV later this afternoon (5 O’clock here) with our young Canadian girl, Bianca Andreescue vs Serena Williams. Should be a great match.

I’m always so scared to read about hurricanes. I don’t know how I would behave if I were in danger)

It's true, the shadow does kind of look like the cat is giving the finger to the storm.

It's been quite windy over here since this morning. The power dimmed a few times here but hasn't let go completely yet. I'm hoping it doesn't go out at all, but I have water in the bathtub and I'm ready in case it does go out. It did go out in the next village over, so it's a possibly that it will go out here too.

It must be very windy in PEI by now. I'm in south east NB just across the straight so the weather must be similar.

I hope it doesn't do too much dammage.

Happy Caturday!

Sorry for the late replies. Power was out for 72 hrs. Phone out also.
Good you had water in bathtub. I saved some also but not enough for the time power was out.

I’m in Eastern PEI outside Montague. Takes about 1 1/2 hr, to get to the bridge to cross into N.B. My brother lives in N.B. and said there was quite a bit of rain.

I figured that might’ve been the reason for the late reply. At my place we got power back on Sunday night, but phone and Internet only came back on Monday morning. The cable TV still worked. I thought that was odd since all three services come in on the same fibre optic cable.

Hehe you are right that is quite a profound shadow he is casting towards the storm.

I always keep more than 3 days’ worth of water around. You never know between things taking longer than expected or a neighbor not being quite as ready as they thought they were among many other issues that could come up.

Stay safe for those still dealing with the hurricane. It seems rather unrelenting.
