Why Self-Care Is Not Just About Physical Health and Outward Looks

However, if you take time out to engage in some good self-care on a daily basis, this will be reflected in your attitude towards life. You will begin to notice that you feel a lot more positive. You will not get stressed out as easily. Your energy levels will skyrocket and you will not get sick as easily. You will not only look and feel better but you will also have more patience and be able to deal with all the little things in life that make it so difficult. Self-care is not just about physical health and outward appearances.


A great way to incorporate more self-care into your daily routine is through exercise. Exercise not only helps you physically but it can also help you mentally. The reason for this is because exercise releases endorphins, which are a type of natural pain killers. Endorphins work to reduce pain and stress. This means that you can be more aware of your body and how it feels and you are more likely to be able to identify with your feelings.

Physical self-care doesn't necessarily mean that you have to go and do hundreds of crunches and sit ups every day. In fact, this can be counterproductive to your physical health. What it does mean is that you have to find time each day to devote just a few minutes to your own physical self-care. If you cannot afford a gym membership or if you do not feel that you have time to exercise then you should consider taking up a hobby such as Yoga or Pilates. Another alternative would be joining a local group in your area that focuses on health and wellness.

The second part of self-care is to set goals. Goals do not have to be unattainable. A simple goal like "I want to bench press 500 pounds by the end of the year" can be written on a small piece of paper. You can even write down smaller goals that you want to achieve over time. Setting goals enables you to measure your success as well as achievements.

Once you have written down your goals, be realistic. Remember that you cannot achieve anything until you really want to achieve it. To achieve your goals you need to put in the time and effort. Even the biggest goals are easier to achieve if you want them.

Lastly, in terms of self-care, it is also important to take care of yourself physically. Eating healthy foods, exercising on a regular basis, and adequate drinking water are all important aspects of taking care of yourself. Taking care of yourself physically also helps you psychologically. If you are able to manage your stress well, then your performance in school and at work will be much better.

It is important to note that in addition to the abovementioned factors, you need to incorporate self-care into your daily life. It is not enough to make a conscious decision to take care of yourself. You need to follow through with this care. If you are a working individual then making time every day for yourself to relax, unwind, and get some exercise is even more important. Remember, your health should always be number one.


Getting away from the television set, laptop, computer, video game console, and all other forms of distraction is another important part of taking care of yourself. Reading books and magazines is also a good idea. Exercising regularly is a great way to improve your overall health. The key is to take care of yourself and care for your body, mind, and spirit. If you are able to do this, you will find that the rewards of self-care far outweigh the time and energy you spend caring for yourself.
