Mindfulness and self-awareness are qualities that many of us are lacking in today's busy world. While mindfulness is about being present and aware of what's around us, self-awareness involves being able to recognize our own internal state and talk to ourselves if we need to. Both of these important qualities will help us live a more fulfilling life in our daily endeavors. By developing a higher level of awareness and mindfulness, we can better tune into our own self and find our place in the bigger picture of our lives.


While mindfulness is an important part of having a healthy emotional intelligence, it's important to realize that self-awareness alone isn't the whole story. In fact, one of the biggest challenges we face on a daily basis is how to maintain self-awareness while also being fully present with all of our many emotions. For example, it's easy for our emotions to get caught up in what's going on around us and we can easily become overwhelmed with our emotions. The practice of daily meditation - which includes breathing and meditation - and journaling helps us become more self-aware as well as more aware of how our thoughts, feelings and actions create changes and responses in other individuals and in the world. It allows us to reflect on what is happening around us, as well as gain insights and an understanding of who we are and of how our lives connect with those around us. By making time to focus on self-awareness and mindfulness practices on a daily basis, we find that we become calmer and more relaxed by the day, and by the week and month. This process of lifelong improvement helps us deal with life's daily challenges in a healthy and constructive way and can lead to an emotional balance that can help us avoid emotional pain and suffering.
