Do you have the right to what is on your table?

photo I took at another restaurant.

The waitress snatched the jelly packets out of my hand.

You know the little jelly packets, at this restaurant they bring 2 with each breakfast sitting on your plate. When she returned to get the money for the food I told my husband we should take the little packets home since we were out of jelly.

That is when she grabbed them out of my hand and said if you don’t eat them here you cannot have them. I said I want to take them with me and her response was what are you going to do with them? I told her eat them and she said they belonged to the restaurant. After everyone handling them I would think she would not want them back. I did not argue and left the restaurant without them.

I know, right? It all seems insane to me.

My question is: "Do you have the right to what is on your table?"

If they were brought out on your plate, I figure that it's yours to consume when you wish. Those packets are a cost of doing business.

This is clearly logic I really like your comment you are right

hello...i'm a newbie here... Nice question,but i do

thanks for your commentr

yes you are

She wants to make sure it will be eaten lol every place has new rules

Lol but she grabbed them like I was stealing and they arrived on my plate.

If he deals with all the customers like this, no one will come back to him. This is bad behavior
What is in the dining table is the right to do what you want

I agree and I plan to NEVER return there.

There are many better restaurants than him ;)

the way waitress reacted, you don't have right to food on your table in that restaurant!! LOL!!
but such unprofessional behaviour will tend to downgrading the restaurants' popularity.

I know it is really humorous however that was really stupid of her.

I would have said: Fuck you Waitress! you just lost a customer and many more tips because of a silly stupid stupid Ass useless rule! What's the name of the Crappy Restaurant?

LOL to be honest I was in shock and know the waitress on a friendly basis. I even tipped her .. once outside I realized what happened was insane. A locally owned and usually very busy for breakfast.

Wow, that's crazy! Why would she risk to potentially lose a future customer over a small pack of jelly? :S

Good question

Definitely, that is what to go containers are all about.

The client is the king

Well said I agree

Of course they were yours! If they had a bowl full on the table, along with the ketchup and mustard and salt and pepper shakers, and they were clearly meant for all the diners to share, then i could see her objecting to you putting the bowl full, along with the bottle of mustard in your purse! But if they were served on your plate, they were yours!

it really through me off so unsuspected ..lol
I really do not know what she was thinking :)
