Always Rushing Around

I’m ALWAYS rushing around. Like, always.

I’m not sure why I let myself do this, but I do.

I’m actually a VERY organized person, but I will leave certain things to the last minute, hence the rushing. It’s usually leaving the house that causes me to rush. And, it’s not even just waiting on my child or husband to be ready, a lot of the time it’s just ME.

I plan everything out in my mind, but there is NEVER enough time for EVERYTHING.

Rushing around causes a lot of stress and confusion. Plus, since it’s usually due to not allotting enough time prior to leaving, I forget stuff. Sometimes really important things, and I HATE causing others stress because I forgot something. Just the other day, I forgot to pack my daughter’s lunch for her day at the water park. And, of course there was no extra time to go back home and do it, I had to make someone else deal with it.

The stress that is involved with rushing around can be seriously overwhelming. And EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS I ask myself, “Why did I let this happen again?”

But, as I thought about it, I came up with the reason: Distractions.

I will let myself get sucked into something else, even if only for a minute, and it throws everything off. It might be checking my email longer than I should, checking on Facebook (which I am trying to limit more and more) or wasting too much time trying to decide what to wear (for me, this could apply multiple times a day because I like to change before certain events).

And you know what? The days I actually plan everything out and stay focused are AMAZING. If I spend the extra time planning in the evening what will need to be done in the morning and how much it will ACTUALLY take, smooth city.

Distractions are easy for me. Also, I either overestimate or underestimate how long it will take me to do things. If it’s over, I have extra time left over and will either be irritated I was finished early and will schedule less time next time. Or, if it’s under, I’m rushing around at the end because I thought I had more time than I did.

Here’s another realization: I’m obsessed with maximizing my time, to the second.

I don’t want extra time at the end, but I also don’t want to run out of time. Again, the way to the happy medium (for me) is planning out the evening before.

There’s a final element to this: I enjoy the endorphin rush.

I think this really is a thing. It’s like a sick game I play with myself. “How quickly can I get everything done with this limited amount of time?” I gotta stop. It’s not helpful, smart or needed. Plus, no one cares that I finished my morning routine in half the time it should have taken. Why not enjoy the whole process?

It would also prevent me from hollering for everyone to hurry Hurry HURRY! I’m sure my daughter gets annoyed at me flurrying around the house, racing to get out the door. She is DEFINITELY someone that likes to take their mornings easy.

Lastly, I want to give up my habit of rushing around. Let’s just all do away with being careless with our time and get our lives together! I am REALLY going to try to do this.

Will you commit with me?

I need to stop looking at the shiny, distracting things and start feeling less stressed because I won my day by being prepared and ready.

Until next time, friends.-the RealPositiveGirl

Even I faced the same issue of procrastinating my work and then rushing at the last moment to finish it off. And, most of the times I end messing up things. I have started following a priority list and managing my time so that the next time people don't hesitate to give me challenging tasks.

That's pretty smart. I have always thought of the idea of having a "to-do" list for my mornings and thinking that it would make my life easier. Maybe I should try it, being similar to your priority list.
