First I make a quick sketch and draw around the dark fur of the dog. I measure where the nose and eyes should be placed with a ruler to get the right porportions. For this I use a hard graphite pen like 2H that is easy to erase if I make a mistake. The lines are not perfect but it doesn't matter, The shape is going to form it self during the process.

After I get the sketch right I start to shade the dark fur with a soft graphite pen like 6B and then smoth it out with a piece of toiletpaper or any other soft paper. With this I make a base shade that I will draw on later.

I continue shading and press harder every time I go over the same aras. I also start to draw the fur with thin but dark lines. For this I use a 4B graphite pen because the 6B is too soft and gets too messy. Always have your pens sharpened or use a mechanic pen with thin "stift".
I also make the basic shading of the eyes and nose.

When the base shading is done I start making more thin lines and just draw as many as I can from the center and out to get the direction where the fur is growing. I continue drawing lines until it gets black in the dark areas and I'm satisfied.
At this point it is almost finished. The thing that is missing is the white hairs and to create this I use a piece of tape and a semi sharp thing like a needle or something similar. It doesn't need to be sharp as a needle, anything pointy will do.
I place the tape gently over the areas where I want to create the white hairs and just draw lines on the tape. The glue on the tape is sticking to the graphite on the paper and when you pull it a white line will appere where you pressed with the needle. The last thing I do is to erase a part of the eyes to create the reflection in the eyes. It makes the dog more alive.
