Will Captain Marvel Play a Leading Role in Avenger 4?
In case you didn’t know, Captain Marvel is the only movie that will come out between Avengers: Infinity War and the Untitled Avengers 4. It's influence on Untitled Avengers 4 should be big as Marvel movie tend to set up other movies.
There is pressure on Marvel to deliver an epic female superhero that will not fall short of the highly beloved Wonder Woman which came out this year. It will be a hard one, not only is Carol Danvers unknown to the generation public like most Marvel characters were before their movies. But her origin story can be problematic, so I assume that it will be mostly modified for the movie.
In a recent interview Kevin Feige said:
“Really, the focus now is on delivering ‘Captain Marvel’ and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.”
He also said in the same interview:
“We’re really focusing on ‘Captain Marvel’ and the work that Anna and Ryan are doing. It’s going to be a big part of heading towards this epic conclusion and epic finale of 22 movies over the course of 10 years. That is focus for the next six movies we have to finish and get out.”
Meaning that Captain Marvel will tie in and probably set up the Untitled Avengers 4. Considering what we know so far about her movie, it seems more and more likely to be a Secret Invasion story. We won’t know until Avengers: Infinity War will tell us if the infinity gauntlet storyline will be wrapped up in that movie or not.
“It’s going to be a big part of heading towards this epic conclusion” is an ambiguous sentence in my eyes. I’m not sure if by “it” he means the Skrull plotline which he uncovered in comic-con, or the Captain Marvel movie, and therefore the character of Carol Danvers herself will be a big part. I really hope that both. Although I can see the logic of leaving the Skrulls for phase 4.
Brie Larson has already been spotted on the set of Untitled Avengers 4(no pictures and no costume pictures!), but we don’t know if she’s done a lot of scenes or how many days of filming. Marvel is keeping a lot of secrecy around the movie. I think that Kevin Feige, being the smart business man that he is, will wait to see how Carol Danvers will be received. If it will receive Wonder Woman levels of love, expect her to have a huge role in Untitled Avengers 4. If her movie will be only mediocrely received, expect a lot of her scenes to end up on the editing floor.
