What's your steemit mental model?

in #steemit10 years ago (edited)

I spent a lot of time on steemit in the last week, trying to figure out what this really is.

We, as humans, tend to group things that are the same together or use a known model to better understand something new. The better the model, the deeper your understanding of the new "thing".

What I noticed is that I struggle with putting steemit in a model.

Is it a social network?, yet I don't have any friends here or a real way to connect with them - follow seems to do nothing much but pledge a preference.

Is it a forum? Yet most post don't have many replies and discussions

Is it a reddit-type of thing? This is one I most associate with but also not so sure because it doesn't have subreddits clearly defined and it's still very chaotic.

And of course, there's the money which makes all of this even more confusing.

I hope that in time, we will define what this is and why people come here, beyond the money if possible. Then, we might truly have a big thing going.

So, I want to open a discussion with you, what do you think of steemit as? How does it look in your mind?

Let's talk!

I like your way of thinking on this.

i started writing out my answer to your questions, but it evolved into its own post:

Is Steemit The New Internet God: Will Google Be Forced To Step Down And Hand The Almighty Crown To Steem...?

I don't know what it is either. I'm still learning from other people how to be successful. There's a lot of different levels to things, so each person needs to work their way up. I subscribe to a guy Trevon James on youtube who explains it well. He's also on here if you want to visit the link to his posts.

I see steemit as what reddit should have been. I see all other social media as niche markets.

Great post- I've been trying to figure it out myself, and how best to describe it to people. This really helps- nice one.
