My always favorite Momo recipe
Hi Steemians! I hope we all are trying to be happy despite the pandemic :)
Firstly, I hope and pray all are safe and keeping out the patience at the highest level waiting things to settle like it was before.
I cannot step out, police are everywhere and i don't want to risk life of my family or my neighborhood stepping out. Indoor, what the best thing can i do than locking myself in the kitchen.
Going to prepare Chicken Momo's or Dumplings the dish which was originated in Nepal, and try to make out my evening.
So with minimal ingredients i am going to prepare it by steaming method. There are lot of different styles and taste of it, depends on various places. Mine, you can say it's North Eastern (India) style.
Here we go,
Ingredients :
- Chicken ( Boneless) : 200 gms ( Cut roughly 1/3 * inch per piece)
- White onions: 200 gms
- Monosodium glutamate : 1.5 tsp
- Sugar : 1 tsp
- Light Soya sauce: 1 tsp
- Ginger (Minute crushed) : 1 tsp
- Ginger juice : 1 tsp
- Egg : 1
- Flour : 400 gms
- Vegetable oil : 1 tsp
- Salt : To taste
Method:
Step 1 (Getting the dough ready) : Putting and mixing all the flour into a bowl, adding water, salt, vegetable oil and 1egg. Mixing it well enough, and adding water precisely till we knead into a tight dough which is very important if we are going to make Momo's successfully. After that i covered the dough and let it rest for atleast 40 minutes.
Step 2 ( Get the filling ready) : Mixing the finely chopped onions, salt , sugar, msg, light soya sauce, ginger juice, ginger, crushed chillies and mixing it well with hands for few minutes. Lastly, drop the finely cut raw chicken pieces and mixing it again for few minutes more.
Step 3 ( Making Puri) : Now, i took out the dough which was ready after the waited period and just like we make chappati(Rotis), i made small chappatis upto 20 (For extra). Also we need to make sure the center of these chappatis is thicker than the edges. Okay, finally the puri is ready.
Step 4 (Converting to dumpling) : Taking out the fillings and folding it carefully into those chappatis. I made three different folded designs and you can make whatever is easy or as you like.
- Step 5 (Steam it) : Greasing the steamer, put the dumplings into it and steam it for 5 minutes. After cooling it again steam it for 15 minutes and MOMO's are ready.
Step 6 ( Preparing the soup) : Prepare a hot spicy chicken soup as your style. Mine i prepared a usual chicken soup with ginger, garlic, onion, chillies, pepper, and added spices.
Though the soup is optional, you can make it or you can just serve the hot Momo's with sauce of your taste.
Too good, it took time but it was worth it in the end.
Hope you love the recipe and happy cooking!
Much love'
