Expecting

A bump.
Not yet a baby
But you have a name already
Expected in late February
Don’t be late, will you?
Or take too long to arrive
Kick your way into your birthday
Like a champion claiming a crown
We’ll try not to disappoint or let you down
But as your parents, we can’t guarantee
That at eighteen
We won’t embarrass you
In front of your friends
But when we’re old we’ll make amends
By leaving you everything
Our will is your way
So obey
Listen to your mother
Take your dad out for a pint
And we promise to read you a story
Every single night
