Wedding Tradition in North Aceh

Indonesia consists of many tribes with unique and diverse customs. Telling about customs, one of the most common is marriage tradition. Although marriage tradition basically has the same purpose, but the process is held differently and evolves by the time.

Aceh, which is one of the provinces in west Indonesia, also has different customs in each region. Well, because I live in North Aceh District, I will tell about the custom procession that generally applies in North Aceh district.

The journey to a marriage is generally through several stages and custom procession, ie the propose tradition, ba peuha or ba ranup which means carrying a sign such as a ring and agree on how much dowry, this is similar to the event of the engagement procession.

After pass all the pre wedding procession then continue to wedding ceremony or ijab kabul which takes place in accordance with the rules of Islam. Then the last tradition ia wedding party. Sometimes all the above tradition are combined and implemented at once, but it is customary to go through all those traditions.

The marriage is held for two days, can be sequential or intermittent time. The first event took place at the place of the bride called Preh Linto which meant waiting for the groom. The second event took place at the groom's place called Tueng Dara Baro which means welcoming the bride.

On the day of Preh Linto the groom comes to the bride's place accompanied by friends and family. The bride has been dressing since morning wearing customary clothes of Aceh and waiting for groom in pelaminan decorated with gold thread embroidered fabric.

The groom brings gifts of clothing, shoes, bags and cosmetics. And the unique, In addition, the groom also brought cake, sugar, coffee, sugar cane and groom also brought a sprouted coconut and betel. This coconut is hidden in the form of houses, cars, helicopters, ships or other objects. Betel is also formed into a flower arrangement.
