I have written about my blue and pink water Lilies before. Now they are well grown and we can see one or two flowers every day. It looks like the pot is not enough for them anymore.

This is about some new things I have found about them and an idea my mom and myself got when we saw these today.

As I have told in previous post, pink water lily was the only plant my aunt had. It came to ours by mistake. so we wanted to grow a plant from pink one and give it to our aunt.

When we discussed with her, she gave us some important information, which were totally new for us.

Normally, I remove the excess leaves and the dried flowers from the plant. Because, lesser the leaves and unnecessary parts, better the plant grows. What our aunty told us is…. Do not remove them! Not to remove a single leaf or a flower that is dying. I really didn’t like that idea. When I see the old leaves and flowers in the pot, it makes me feel, that I haven’t taken care of it well.

Anyway, we have decided to take our aunts advise and follow it.

Now I’m going to tell you the reason for this action.

Do you know, new water lily plants are grown from the leaves and from the dying flowers?

I didn’t know it and it is news for me.

Can you see there are two types of leaves in images? Some have little roots in the middle and some don’t have. From those roots, a little plant will grow and it will be released into the water.

This little plant I picked from the pot while it was floating after roots are separated from the leaf.

I have put around seven or eight little plants in plastic containers for now. And I have observed more than five leaves having roots for new plants.

This means, I am going to have a large number of plants. We have planned to make a little pond in our land to put them.

When I see these are growing from leaves and we got this many plants in this little time, it came into my mind.

It will be a good business idea for a person who loves gardening. They only need to have one water lily plant to begin with. If we keep leaves and dried flowers in the water, so many new plants can be collected easily and quickly.
