WHAT is Wrong With This Tree-Please Help!!!
This was a perfectly healthy Ash tree on the side of our road. Never had any problems with it.
One day I walk wasps, bees, and butterflies swarming the base of it and some were going behind the bark.
There is no sap or ooze coming from the tree so I don't think they are eating anything. I also don't believe they are making a nest either because of the fact that there are bees, wasps and butterflies. If you have any idea of what this is please let me know in the comments section. if you enjoyed this post please upvote it.
Yes this is weird, I have never seen this before.
Honestly, that has me scratching my head too. Let us know if you figure it out!
From some comments I got it sounds like it is an ash bore.
Look beneath some of the loose bark, sounds like ash borer to me.
Sounded like it to me too.
Will do. thank you for your help.
Have your local extension office come out and check it for Emerald Ash Boring Beetles. Unfortunately, we in Ohio have experienced them and are not allowed to transport wood of any kind (not just Ash) to other select counties. I'm guessing this is what you are looking at possibly.
Please have your extension office or ranger/DNR officer come check it for the Emerald Ash Borer
You may need to dose your ash tree with Bayer systemic insecticide IMMEDIATELY. We have lost almost all the ash trees in Michigan to the Emerald Ash Borer and when there's damage to the tree there may be a sap leakage you just can't see.
I will have to peel away the bark and see what is under there. is there any natural ways to take care of this?
Honestly, not that I know of. You really have to be aggressive with the Emerald Ash Borer because it just takes those trees down super fast. The good thing about using the systemic insecticide is that you do it as a once-yearly watering-in treatment and you don't expect fruit off the ash tree, so using the insecticide is less invasive than spraying or using it on your food.
Ok. thank you for the info.
