An Early Start on the Growing Season

in #homesteading8 years ago

I am trying to get all of my tropical fruit in earlier this year than I did last year. Last year I was about a month off from getting ripe homegrown papayas and then it frosted killing all of my plants.

Today I am going to take you through the process of planting them. Last year I planted 12 seeds and seven of them came up and I did hardly anything for them. I am going to plant another twelve seeds only I am going to plant them two months earlier than I did last year.

I am starting them in a small pot so it will be easier to keep them inside. Then I put the pot into a plastic tub so that I could water them without water leaking everywhere.

I planted two seeds in each pot about a half an inch down and watered them pretty heavily. For the soil I used a mix of peat moss and compost.

I am going to water them every couple of days until they get big enough to plant in a bigger pot until it gets warm enough to plant outside.

Also if there is an interest in any of these seeds I am doing a giveaway here. https://steemit.com/giveaway/@randomstuff/papaya-seed-giveaway
