My Latest Tree Drawing - Ran Art Blog
I usually start with the structure:
Then, I draw from left to right (I am right-handed), and from top to bottom, so I do not smudge what I have already drawn.
I draw in layers, focusing on brightness values, yet adding details and texture.
After ~8 hours or so, I have a tree :o)

Looks great and very realistic. Would have been good for the engagement challenge a few weeks back...though that may have been the one you were judging, can't remember.
Yes, I was judging the tree-drawing contest.
Though, I am used to my tree drawings, so it was fun to see other types of drawings :o)
I see a wonderful and very painstaking work on the structure of the tree, the detail is amazing. I don't know if the mention that this work lasted 8 hours was a joke...but it probably takes that much time to make everything perfect.
It can take much more. Sometimes a week for a drawing. Depending on how complex.

People did not immediately invent the microscope and did not know that there is a microscopic world :) they did not see all the small details, while I am in this state, I see what I see, but what I do not see clearly, I can neglect. But, now I have a reason to bite on how to start seeing small details :).
I usually do not see small details too.
I am focused on the big picture. After I get the values right, then I start noticing many things I did not see before.
So, it is a process.
In general terms, I understand this, I'm not sure if I have enough patience, but you can try to test yourself :)
