Make a roadmap of what you want to learn in the future

in #life5 years ago

You may already know that I like to do a lot of things. I like graphic design and I sometimes create all kind of small things using Photoshop, I like to write so I publish quite a lot on Steemit and Medium, I like 3D modelling so I work whenever I can in Blender, I like coding, so I learn web development, and the list can go on.

Thing is, I'd like to do a lot more. I have quite the imagination and I think I could create some cool stuff if I'd learn how to draw, I would love to create a few games in the future and maybe even sell them on a platform like Steam, I would like to learn how to play music using two particular instruments, piano and violin, and a lot of other things.

But I don't have the time. What's more important, I don't have the money to just forget about everything and learn whatever I want without having to deal with all kind of responsibilities.

However, that doesn't mean I'll never be able to learn how to do all those things. It just means I have to make sure I have the time, the money and the right strategy to start learning something and get to a level I'm happy at, one that will allow me to create whatever I want without too much effort.

But, as I said, that requires quite some effort and planning, and if you're like me and you want to learn a lot of things, just vaguely knowing what you'd like to learn in the future isn't gonna help you much. That is why it may be a good idea to create a "roadmap" that will help you plan what skills you'll focus on first and when you'll move towards something new.

Knowing what to do next, what to focus on using the tools you have at your disposal right now and what you may need to get other tools to learn new things is a good way of making sure you at least have some sort of an image of what your future will look like in terms of learning new things.

You can't plan on learning how to use a piano if you have no time to learn, no money to buy a piano and absolutely zero knowledge about that instrument. Wishing to learn is one thing, actually purchasing the instrument and learning is something completely different.

Having a plan when it comes to your hobbies, the things you want to learn and the skills you'd like to have, could help you actually learn those things in the future by knowing where you should be heading next.
