Thanksgiving and all That!

I'm grateful for everything I have. It shouldn't be dedication to one day per year to acknowledge what we have, but we're about to go into the dark, cold, agriculturally infertile time of the year, so I get that this is the date to commit to memory what this year and all those before have given us.

This summer has given me the best sales I've ever seen to date. I'm hopeful that can carry on, but I acknowledge that nothing is owed to me in that regard. I've gotten better compliments, better offers, and more interesting conversations this year.

I don't have a lot in life, financially, but I've got amazing friends, and I have a lot of fun. I've been really fortunate to be so busy these past months. Can't wait to find out what the next ones will bring.

My apartment building was sold recently. The new owners have been breaking their backs trying to bring this place back up to code. In the past week, during repairs, a couple water pipes burst one floor up, sparking an electrical fire that took fire fighters over an hour to deal with. Subsequently, the whole west side of the building is flooded several floors down, so they've installed industrial floor-level fans all the way down several hallways. Of course, on Thursday, the building generator had had enough of the constant pull, and basically exploded in a massive plume of noxious gas, so we were told to remain in our unit all day while fire fighters once again dealt with the gas leakage. We've had our balcony door and bedroom window open since then, to make sure we're clear of carbon monoxide. Since then, the building heat doesn't work, and we've had no hot water. Apparently the temporary fix should be ready by tonight, and I will be so so so grateful for that shower.

I'm grateful for all the effort the new owners are putting in to try to get this building back up to code, in spite of the difficulties the tenants are all facing. I'm grateful these accidents have caused no fatalities. I'm grateful to live indoors.

I'm grateful to be able to be an artist in this expensive city.
