New Work in Progress!

I started this yesterday. I have a few other things in mind, but I recently stopped into the antiques shop where I bought the tea cup I used for my leaping horse painting, and got two more. I haven't done anything really cute in a while, and I do want to test out the cats-in-painting project I've been planning for a while.

But backtrack a little... I was in this antique shop. It's been liquidating for a few months, because Toronto is gentrifying. The people who owned it were getting older, and the rent has been skyrocketting. So they've had to close, and the bone china tea cups are only $5 now, down from $12. As I was buying the two I picked out, I showed the shop keeper the painting with previous one I'd bought from the store. He was impressed, and asked for a card.

It doesn't mean he'll be in touch, but it's an encouraging gesture anyway, so here we are. I've begun. I think it's going to be pretty cute.

I asked for suggestions from some friends on the background. Most of them have given funny suggestions, like ninjas, train wrecks, dragons, and the Queen's face really close up. A couple of them gave more down-to-earth suggestions like 'flowting in a fish pond', 'wasteland', and 'thunderstorm'. I kind of wish I could do all three of the last ones. I'm leaning towards wasteland, though. I like the idea of something so lovely peering out through the wreckage. It's like a little Pandora. Maybe that'll be the name. We'll have to see. :)

Don't know why, but kittens and porcelain cups go well together - maybe because they are both cute and delicate.

I think so too, though I've never really paired them in my mind before. :)

Is this is the same cat that got curious? Or kitten in this case :P

Lol! I guess it will be!

I love that concept for a reimagining of the Pandora myth - that it's curiosity itself that we hold onto, not hope. (I mean, if it's the curious being that's still in the box, or cup in this case) :D

I love this! I love animals in art and often include them in my own. The pop of colour in the back is really uplifting, can't wait to see it finished.

Wtv you pick for the background I'm sure will be awesome, I am looking forward to seeing the finished piece, I really love the cute cat
