You must learn how to quiet your own mind, thoughts, needs and desires and listen to what the other person is saying. The other person might be your child, friend, partner, anyone you love and care for.

Truly understand what the person is saying to you. There is nothing that feels better to a human being than to feel understood. Your mission is to thoroughly understand what the person is saying. You can paraphrase what they said to you to clarify your understanding.

Validate the things that you recognize as true in what they say. “Yes, I get it.” “I understand that.” “I see that.” The validation creates a loving environment between you and the person.
