The Comet

It's been a while since I participated in a 99-word flash fiction,but after a difficult night it felt right to use it to will some hope into today.

She was enjoying the relative quiet of lying in a hammock, wishing to be much further out of the city. It would be nice to see some stars.

Moments passed as she thought about the day. It had been a difficult one, ending with kids who were too tired for bed. They had been in that special state where nothing could soothe them.

She sighed and began getting out of the hammock. She looked up at the night sky one more time and was surprised to see a comet. It must be an omen that tomorrow would be better.
