Drought! In South Africa
I took this picture on the Kwa Zulu Natal coastline, South Africa. A province which has one of the highest rainfall figures in the country. This jetty It is about 50 meters long, (about 130 feet) and can accommodate many boats and fisherman along its length. There had been - at the time of taking this photo - neither for a long time. The grass area, visible in the foreground used to have boats and fish floating above it!
Cape Town, in the Western Cape is approximately 1,700 kilometers by road from this jetty. It is one of our biggest cities and a major tourist attraction. It has been predicted by the Western Cape Water Affairs that the city will run out of water around the middle of April this year unless huge amounts of rain fall in the catchment area before then!
Should this happen, we are told, that it will be the the only big city in the world that has ever run out of water!
The government declared our country drought stricken and today set aside an amount of six billion Rand for drought relief for three of the worst hit provinces
Please join us in prayer for rain
