Weekly Photography Challenge #2 - My Favorite Possession

If it's about choosing something precious, I have plenty of things I could hang here, but since it's only one, I decided on this one.

It's a Facit adding machine (calculator) from about 1951. I don't have the exact date because we never talked about it with my father and he is no longer around to certify it. But I know that in his job (before working independently in his own business, he worked for many years for Gerber Products and this was the machine he used to do the accounts for the company.

Si de escoger algo preciado se trata, tengo infinidad de cosas que podría colgar acá, pero ya que solo es una, me decidí por esta.

Es una máquina sumadora Facit (calculadora) aproximadamente de los años 1951. No tengo la fecha exacta porque jamás hablamos de esto con mi padre y él ya no está para certificarlo. Pero sé que en su trabajo (antes de trabajar independientemente en su negocio propio, trabajó durante muchos años para Productos Gerber y esta era la máquina con la que él sacaba las cuentas de la empresa.

When he stopped working for that company, my father brought with him this adding machine and some other things that belonged to him.

My older brothers, who were not yet born by this time, when they were born and growing up, played and learned to use this calculator, which worked perfectly.

Al dejar de trabajar para esa empresa, mi padre trajo consigo esta máquina sumadora y algunas otras cosas que eran de su pertenencia.

Mis hermanos mayores, quienes aún no habían nacido para estas fechas, cuando nacieron y fueron creciendo, jugaron y aprendieron a usar esta calculadora, que funcionaba a la perfección.

Many years later, Mom decided to order two more little children and first my brother arrived and three years later, I came into the world.

As expected, as we both grew up, we also played with the adding machine and learned to use it.

Today, the machine works and my 9-year-old son uses it to play the bank executive, with bills that are worth less than those in the game Monopoly.

Muchos años después, mamá decidió encargar dos hijitos más y primero llegó mi hermano y tres años después, llegué yo al mundo.

Como era de esperarse, al ir creciendo nosotros dos, también jugamos con la sumadora y aprendimos a usarla.

Hoy en día, la máquina funciona y mi hijo de 9 años, la utiliza para jugar al ejecutivo bancario, con billetes que valen menos que los del juego Monopolio.

I know that when my son marries and has children of his own, they will also use the adding machine.

Sé que cuando mi hijo se case y tenga hijos propios, ellos también harán uso de la sumadora.
