Panning Shots

in #vehiclephotography6 years ago (edited)

During after work, I always hang on the side of the street near our place just to practice panning shots. I'm really addicted into photography. Many might wander and ask, "What is panning?" "Using prying pan while capturing photos?" The answer is, of course, NO.

Once photography enters your bloodstream, it is like a disease.

What Is Panning?

Panning is a camera technique used to capture moving subject or capturing subject in motion.

I would like to share with you guys some technique on how to do it and discover the fun using it.

How Do You Do It?

  • Set your camera on Professional Mode. Some smartphone cameras Pro Photo and some are not advanced enough to allow us to change aperture value, so all you can play with is the shutter speed, ISO and the focusing modes.
  • Set your shutter speed slower than normal, but not too slow or it will be difficult to obtain a clear subject.
  • The basic idea behind panning shots is that you pan your camera along in time with the moving subject and. The speed of the mobile phone panning should match the speed at which the subject is passing by.

Most importantly, practice panning as much as you can. Discover you smartphone camera's shutter speed until you will find the right settings that gives you the blur you want while still allowing to freeze the subject.

Photography is the story I fail to put into words. When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence."

You actually explained the technique through the great photos, and well said : the photos tell the story of the technique.
