The dunes of Hook of Holland (Hoek of Holland = The corner of Holland)

in #esteem6 years ago (edited)

After some weeks @dog-marley and I visited the dunes of Hook of Holland again

We haven't been here for quite a while because Snoop has difficulties to get into the car - especially after walking for some time.
Today, when I asked @dog-marley if we should go to the dunes of Hook of Holland he went totally crazy. He ran around - licking my hand in between and finally stood in front of the door asking what takes so long.
If anybody says now: "You don't really believe your dog understood what you were saying, do you?" I can tell you: he did (as he does almost all the time).
Why would I know that?
Simple answer: we have dunes directly in front of our door where we normally go to every day around that time. But when we went outside he walked in the opposite direction - to the car. He knew we need to go by car to the dunes of Hook of Holland.

Never underestimate your dog and what he's understanding

Even if you are talking in full sentences he will understand you if you trained it from the very beginning.

But why was Marley so excited?

Well, if you look at the photos you will see it's a perfect place for rabbits - and there are hundreds of them in these dunes.
Yes, I know - for the rabbits Marley is not the best thing to happen. But he only chaises them a bit. He does not eat them ;)
When Snoop was still fit, he was different. Nowadays he has no chance anymore to catch a rabbit. But I have proof he did.

You might hate Snoop for this but I can assure you he is a very nice dog and he only did it once.
But: he would not let go. I had to wait for @psionic-tremors to come and he immediately let go. I could not get this rabbit out of his mouth. When she arrived the rabbit was released.

But back to the dunes of the Hook of Holland

When we arrived today our favorite parking place was marked as "full". It wasn't, but Landal wanted to be sure their guests have a parking place near to their temporary homes.

If you go to their homepage you will think: wow - that's nice!
If you take a look from the other side - the dunes - you will see this:

One can hardly get a glimpse of the sea - only if you walk up to the highest point of the dunes.

Every cube is two apartments for about 200 euro a night if you'll stay for 4 nights during the autumn when it's windy and cold.
And additional feature: when the wind is blowing from the south you will have the nice smell of diesel and other burned fossil fuels from container ships and oil fabrics in the Rotterdam harbor.
Enjoy your stay!!!!

On the picture above you can see a long black stripe going into the sea

This is a pear dividing the big river Maas and the North Sea. It was built to have fewer waves at the entrance of Rotterdam harbor.
You can walk on it into the sea for about 400 meters.
But be careful! If the waves are high you not only get wet but also washed away!

We went there and I can tell you it's worth taking the risk

Here some impressions.

A long way to go

What a view

It's quite a long way back to the land

Will the sea stay calm and not wash us away?

The photos above were taken when Snoop was still fit enough to join these adventures.

The contrast between the dunes of Hook of Holland and the other side of the river Maas is massive

In the dunes, there is a lot of pure nature. On the other side of the river, you got only industry.

Look at this:

You saw the difference?
Well, if you did not yet I'll just upload some more photos of the other side of the river.

For now I say:

STEEM ON!!!

If you love dogs you might want to take a look at @dog-marley's stories.

If you love music you might want to listen to @psionic-tremors' tunes.

I was raised close to this beach and it feels like home to me. I recognize every picture you shared here and know which paths you walked, funny. My last three posts are from HvH and Tweede Maasvlakte coincidentally :D

WOW - what a coincidence.
I'll check out these posts directly!
