Your Steemit Reputation as the Smurfs

in #funny10 years ago

They're here... Reputations. Love 'em or leave 'em, you can't ignore a reputation. In fact, as part of the Social Media Blockchain Revolution, your reputation is out there for everyone to see. So unless you're a Jason Bourne type, you won't be fooling anyone.

That being said, all the reputation really means is that you're either:

  • New to the platform
  • Not new to the platform, but not well regarded.

Maybe you're a spammer, a maker of abusive bots, or you just troll around starting fights. Whatever the case, now you have a shiny new number next to your name and, while it doesn't say everything about you, it does help paint an initial impression.

For example, if your reputation stands at 1 and it's clear you're not new around Steemit, chances are your comment won't be substantially related to the topic, and it may even distracting from the conversation. If it's downright abusive, you'll be downvoted by users and you'll wind your way down well past 0. Who knows, maybe you'll get to sit next to @wang down at the -8 table. I hear there's a lot of legroom.

Now that getting my head wrapped around the reputation system is out of the way, how can we easily visualize the reputation system? SMURFS!

Starting at the top:

8 Papa Smurf

A reputation level of 8 suggests the Steem is strong in you. You can juggle real life, blogging, commenting, voting, buying Steem (or selling), and still manage to be cool about it. Do it on two books? No problem! Someone with an 8 for a reputation is a member and active producer in the community. Chances are they're also actively developing for the platform or contributing something of great value. I imagine the butt-kissing will begin in 3, 2, 1...

7 Brainy Smurf

Having a reputation of 7 is like being the guy who can only be defeated by Bruce Lee wielding Steem-chucks. You know you're stuff, and you're probably already well on the way up. You're probably a great community member in whatever your interests are, and the chances that Steemit is one of your interests is high. You want to see the platform grow and if you're up here you're engaging with a lot of people and generating some great content, which happens to be actually valuable here on Steemit.

6 Handy Smurf

HandySmurf19dd3.jpg
When you're a 6, you're a 6 all the way, from your first steemit post, to your last dying day. But seriously, 6's can be anyone who actively uses steemit, enjoys engaging in good conversation, and uses the platform as it was intended to be used. They understand the tech, the processes and hell, they may even be on their way to witness-dom. One thing is for sure, they're handy to have around.

5 Wild Smurf

You gotta love the wild ones! Reputation 5 could mean you just don't spend a lot of time on Steemit, and that's cool. We all have lives, not all of us are going to be completely addicted right? ... right? It could also mean that you pull no punches and you may have some Steemians out there who aren't quite sure how to approach you because, after, all, you're wild. Still, you can be counted on to swing in on your vine with the right comment and a solid upvote, even if you do straddle that line.

4 Big Mouth

Maybe you're not bad at all and just a little clumsy, like big mouth. You stumble about Steemit posts randomly, sometimes leaving a mess where you go. However, if you're a 4 the more likely situation is that you're on the way up! You've engaged with Steemit, you find information that's valuable to you from authors you can continue to follow and engage with. Stick with it and enjoy the ride, and you'll be a wild smurf in no time.

3 Scruple

Again, maybe you're just on the way up and passing through, but if your reputation sits at a solid 3 for a long time after you've been engaging and participating in the community then chances are you're Scruple. You're really bad, and you're really bad at being really bad. It's not your fault, you were kicked out of Wizard school and chained to a Grumpy reputation 1 somehow. It's never too late to hit the books and get that reputation levitating.

2 Lord Balthazar

You've been on Steemit for a long time and you aren't a bot. Your interactions include: insulting, rageflagging, being a crappy bot. You're less interested in Steemit and more interested in someone listening to your damn problems! I mean, you're Gargamels God Father and a Wizard damnit! Down around reputation 2, the locals don't have much courtesy and generally don't contribute much value to a conversation. Again, you'll be a 2 at some point, this applies to "solid" 2's.

1 Gargamel

After a while, you don't even notice that you're reputation 1 anymore, you're too busy wreaking havoc on whatever post catches your fancy. If you're new to Steemit, take heart. Anyone can see a user history (steemd.com/@(theirusername , in case you don't know), so people will be more likely to help answer your questions than burn you. But if you like stomping around villages and crushing helpless smurfs, you won't be a 1 for long. I'll personally downvote you along with the rest of the community where we won't have to deal with it.

There's really no point in illustrating 0 and below, as won't see them. But a special shout out to the lonely...

-8 Clockwork Smurf

Grew up on this cartoon, well put mate!

Thanks, this was one of the staple cartoons in the 80's and one of my favorites too!

you went HAM on this, very good writing, congratulations and jubilations, you made me read and smile at the same time :)

Yo, I got Texas on this one haha if you were smiling at the end then I did what I came to do!

I upvoted You

Dude, I love this and found it very humorous. I, too, grew up watching the smurfs...ahh, Saturday morning as a kid was great, until I got older.

Yeah, and actually it wasn't just you getting older. They don't really do Saturday morning cartoons anymore because kids can watch any cartoon any time. Saturday morning used to be such a big deal!

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 7.1 and reading ease of 76%. This puts the writing level on par with Tom Clancy and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
