Cover Images on Steemit Author Pages Are Live!

Cover images finally work!

I was pretty surprised several minutes ago when I saw that my cover image on desktop had finally started to look like the pic I set in eSteem (it was a picture of a park I captured in Amsterdam during Steemfest).

I've been very excited for this development because I think it adds a special treat for visitors coming to check out your blog page.

And let's be honest, it makes your page look pretty sweet (not that I didn't like the blue!).

I experimented with the image above to see how it renders. Right now it seems to stretch the image a bit and only make the center viewable, so keep this in mind when designing your cover image.

How to set up

This part is really simple. I set up my cover image when the option became available, so I would know when it became functional. Here's how to set yours up:

• On your blog page, navigate to settings
• In the cover URL, enter the url address for the image
• Click Update

Done!

Pro-tip - You can quickly drop an image into the markdown editor (or upload from mobile) to quickly acquire the address of any new image you want to use. You will only need the part of the code starting with https and ending with .jpg/.gif/.png.

Steemit is gonna get more colorful

Anything that helps personalize the Steemit experience is a positive development to me. This really makes my blog page feel like a home where I can change the curtains regularly.

Ultimately, I went with this image for my cover since I enjoyed the colors:

When uploading .gif it doesn't seem the cover image will act like a gif and will instead take the first frame of the .gif.

Please forgive me if this isn't a new feature and I somehow missed when it was enabled. Ive been on all morning and it just updated for me.

Get Updating!

EDIT: We need to be able to position the image when setting it. If you zoom the browser with ctrl + the image gets bigger and more clear. Still, awesome update I'm having a blast with.
