Depression and Sadness

Many of us react differently to our emotions and the way we experience sadness. Some people may take pleasure in their sadness and will seek out circumstances that elicit sadness as a cathartic affect. Others, though, have such a severe aversion to sadness that they will go to great extents to avoid situations that they feel might trigger that emotion.


This can become a problem. For example, some will become depressed when their loved one dies because they are so upset at the loss of life that their emotional response is to be depressed. But this is inappropriate. After all, death is part of life and everyone deals with their feelings of loss in different ways. It is important to remember that one does not need to react negatively to sadness when the emotion is truly deserved.

Instead of being depressed, you should learn how to handle your sadness in a healthy way. Handling sadness is about more than just avoiding those depressing feelings that occur as a result of sad events. Sadness is actually a positive emotion and it serves a vital role in our emotions. For instance, sadness is one of the chemicals that are released in order to boost our "feel good" hormones, such as serotonin, in our bodies. These hormones help to make us feel good, and are particularly important during periods of emotional healing such as childhood emotional trauma.

However, sad feelings like sadness should not be allowed to dominate one's life. Even if you do not feel like dealing with sad feelings on a regular basis, they can and will sneak up on you. To effectively manage your mood, you must learn how to manage the different types of sad emotions.

If you experience sadness as a result of your loved one's death, then you are likely in a grief-based mood. This means that you are experiencing sadness for a specific reason - for example, because of the memory of your loved one. If this is the case, then you should stay away from handling this emotion. Instead, ask yourself if you can move on with your life or if you need time to grieve. Alternatively, you may want to focus on celebrating the life of your loved one - this can take the form of a celebration luncheon or dinner, for example. Regardless, handling sadness will require some focus and attention, which can make you feel emotionally unbalanced.

If you are able to let go of sadness in this case, then you can move on. Sadness is actually an excellent emotion because it motivates us into taking positive action, such as improving our lives or pursuing other opportunities. Unfortunately, too much sadness can also have this same effect on us. If this happens to you, then you need to work on re-programming your emotional mind to welcome constructive thoughts instead of inappropriate ones - in this case, you might want to work on using your thinking brain more than your sad brain.

Depression and sadness are very closely linked, but they often occur together. Because we tend to respond to our feelings with sadness, this can have negative effects on our health and well-being. The feelings of sadness that accompany depression can distract us from getting important things done in our lives, such as work or other vital tasks. This can also affect our long-term health - studies have shown that people suffering from depression and sadness are more likely to miss out on the necessary vitamins and nutrients that contribute to their well-being. This, in turn, can lead to other health problems, such as obesity and other serious diseases.


It's difficult to determine whether you're truly sad or suffering from depression. Sadness can have a number of different emotional manifestations - from being excessively sad to feeling depressed or alienated. Sadness can be displayed in a number of different ways and in a variety of different environments. Some people show signs of sadness in public situations like parties or celebrations, while other people hide their emotions and keep to themselves. The sad truth is that even though everyone experiences sadness in varying degrees, everyone can benefit from the emotional support offered through depression and sadness therapy.
