This is another realistic pencil and charcoal drawing I did a while ago, and I would like to share the process here.

The Process

I made the sketch first of course, then I started shading the face and part of the hand with graphite pencils before going on to the messy charcoal part. I always use charcoal to shade the iris(dark part of the eye) because it is usually very dark, to make it more realistic (charcoal is much darker than graphite). I also used charcoal to shade the shadow under the eyes and on the cheek.

I started shading the hair and the dark part of the hand with charcoal, blending it with cotton buds and blending stomps. For the highlights in the hair, I just left the spaces white then used a brush to cover it a little with the surrounding charcoal, then I added in few strokes of hair with black and white charcoal.

I repeated the same technique to finish the hair, but with patience and care, as charcoal easily gets messy, then I started working on the cloth

And here is the final shot, hope you learnt a thing or two.
