INTRODUCTION

line2.png

Hi guys,
Again, @crypto.piotr here.
Finally we went through HF21 and the amount of emotions related to the current fork seem to be really high. It's so really hard to predict how HF21 will affect future social behaviours on Steem blockchain. However, there are few things I'm quite certain that will happen and one that I would like to discuss is: `the effect of the new non-linear reward curve'.

NON-LINEAR REWARD CURVE: EXPLAIN LIKE I'm 5

line2.png

I will try to explain the problem of this newly introduced reward curve as easily as possible. Personally I think that this is the biggest change for those who used to reward comments with upvotes.

Here you can find a really good explanation on what it's all about:
https://steempeak.com/steem/@vandeberg/reward-curve-deep-dive

What non-linear reward curve means to us? Strength of our upvote depends on the current reward of upvoted post or comment. So upvoting unpopular post will simply be ... not a very popular solution.

Why? Let me exaplain using my own account as an example:
Just a few days ago my full single upvote was worth 1,7 STEEM POWER. Right now it varies.

If I upvote post/comment with a current 0$ payout, then my upvote will be worth only 1,04 SP. Dramatic drop (and on top of that we need to remember, that authors will receive only 50% instead of previous 75%).

However, upvoting posts which had large payout (around 480 SP, over 100$) gave better results. All of a sudden my upvote was worth 2,04 SP. Which is more than before HF21 and it's surely twice as much comparing to just previous 1,04 SP (pretty much voting power got doubled).

HUGE DIFFERENCE, isn't it?

I came to a conclusion, that in order for my upvote to have the same strength as it had a few days ago, I would have to upvote posts with current reward value exceeding 300SP (around 60$). And that's quite insane, isn't it?

BUILDING NEW UPVOTING MINDSET AND TRENDING PAGE

line2.png

I would expect that users will be upvoting mostly those publications, which are already popular. That seem to be quite obvious to me at this stage.

So I would expect that the trending page will become "alive" once again. After all that's where the majority of users will go to do their daily upvotes, thinking mostly about maximizing their own curation rewards.

At the same time those who still use bots to push themself to trending page are being downvoted without any mercy.

FUTURE OF "PROJECT HOPE" telegram channel

line2.png

Steemit will surely "work" very different now. Creating groups and communities which would support each other (both with comments and upvotes) will be more important than ever.

HF21 will actually work in our favour, since everyone involved in our project will have a chance to get some more visibility and some initial upvotes from supportive friends. That will absolutely change a lot.

My current goal is to ensure that our community is working fine (on a small scale model). That we support each other and share quality content on our channel. I already spoke with a few large stake holders and they like the idea behind this project and pretty much all of them are willing to support our group in the future.

It's up to us to ensure that we will become strong and active community. Many large accounts care about traffic and exposure, and groups like ours can be very useful for some of them. Idea is simple: to bring a few large stakeholders on board and allow them to post on our channel and promote their publications from time to time. In return, they would be supporting all our efforts with strong upvotes.

Doesn't that sound like a win-win scenario?

UPVOTING COMMENTS - WILL IT DIE?

line2.png

Will people still be upvoting comments? I'm afraid that most users that did it in the past will simply stop. What would you do if you had 10k SP? Would you guys use it to upvote comments or just focus on upvoting popular publications?

What do you guys think? I would love to believe that I'm wrong but I hardly doubt so.

Yours, @crypto.piotr

It's always a good idea to work as a community. Power in numbers. I think "Project Hope" is moving in the right direction. It is better to grow slowly and organically, this way we can forge stronger internal relationships.

Answering the question on whether I will still vote for comments if I have a 10k SP. I personally treat voting like clicking the "like" button on Facebook. I am not too bothered about the opportunity cost incurred. Rather, I just vote when I like it.

Hello @project.hope .. thanks a lot for the mention my friend @crypto.piotr

I´m sure that project.hope is the solution for this newsteem...

Small community but it will be very powerful everyday, it will be an incredible tool to promote quality content, get organic upvotes, and maybe everyone can get the top position ...!!!

At the same time those who still use bots to push themself to trending page are being downvoted without any mercy.

I´m agree with you... Also if you are posting original content and using bots to promote them. For sure you will get a lot of downvotes.

It is very clear that some people don't read the content, they see only the hight rewards, and because of that you get a downvote.

I got that in my last publication, and I´m marking my words because my last post wasn't my original content. It is very original but I take that video from another autor https://steemit.com/dtube/@edgarare1/what-the-heck-is-steem-in-60-seconds, and I explain in the text who is the owner. The content is very interesting that´s the reason I took it just to promote it again to help the owner...

Maybe the promotion service won´t be the same, and good writers will stop posting, communities going to be more powerful since now. This is an opportunity for us and many others, if we can bring passionate writers to our community, it can bring us in a radar of somebody else to curate important content...

Will people still be upvoting comments?

Yes, maybe not personally, but using a bot to do that. Exist a lot of spammers who are voting content with downvotes, And many people read and vote with some positive percentage.

In my case, I always vote with a 100% ...

In conclusion: Project.Hope is the BEST STRATEGY...

Yours,
Edgar...!!!

Greetings to everyone, my friend. @crypto.piotr and @project.hope

I am part of your project that makes me very proud. these words which I quote:

Steemit will surely "work" very different now. Creating groups and communities which would support each other (both with comments and upvotes) will be more important than ever.

It's where everything lies.
It's definitely a way to join forces within this new HF21 as I mentioned in my post Active .- "Hardfork 21" _. Inactive The big ones will get bigger and the small ones will be a little harder to grow.

So we must stick together and support each other.

It makes sense to view upvotes as an investment of sorts. If you dig up a high-quality yet undervalued asset before it catches on, then your early support is rewarded. That's what it used to be before HF21, only now it's magnified.

Yes, as mentioned, HF21 only makes the case for P#H even more compelling. Both in terms of authoring and curating posts. And yes, going forward, it will be more important than ever to write good content and to support one another, as the project continues to grow in size and significance.

There are two ways to look at this reward curve:

  • at the moment of the vote, your vote carries a certain value according to the place of the post in the reward curve. If you are among the first to vote, your vote carries less value.

  • at the same time when you vote early, you will get a higher percentage of the pie from curation rewards.

I think the vote value at the moment of voting isn't the best indicator because this value can evolve. You vote with a certain amount of STU. The more STU the post or comment will get, the higher it will be in the reward curve.

So, in spite of everything, I believe that it is important to vote quality posts early and encourage other people to read these posts.

Project hope: a perfect solution for post HF21

All the people that work around project hope write constantly interesting posts and also most of the people have substantial Steem Power.

If as a community we vote for each other and spread our posts, we all win. The new settings of HF21 encourage communities to merge and support each other.

I believe that the project hope is a great tool for all of us:

  • for authors to have their posts seen and upvoted
  • for curators to find quality content that will probably have higher payout levels and higher curation rewards
  • for investors to use their Steem Power with high ROI of curation rewards

P.S: Please correct me if I got things wrong ;-)

Dear @achim03

In my humble opinion.

Friend I think you are absolutely right and the way you explain it is very easy to understand the new operation of this HF21.

A big hug from Venezuela

Thanks for the feed-back my friend!

Hello leader @crypto.piotr.

My current goal is to ensure that our community is working fine (on a small scale model). That we support each other and share quality content on our channel.

This is definitely the way to go, it is time to work more together, with discipline and mutual commitment, everyone here must be aware of the situation and that we need each other if we want to continue growing.

Right now I am working on the induction of some people who want to start with accounts on the platform and I am helping them as a facilitator, I don't know if it is time for new people to join the group but they asked for help, they showed interest and I am working with them.

I already spoke with a few large stake holders and they like the idea behind this project and pretty much all of them are willing to support our group in the future.

Perfect brother, I think this group will continue to grow, overcome adversity and merge more and more.

Great work leader, your effort will produce fruits.
@fucho80

Hi Piotr:

This change in the calculation algorithms is very complicated and I don't think it favors the majority.
They made the process more complicated to get rewarded, I think there was no need for it. Or at least I still don't see what they intend to achieve with this new change.

Voting on the trend page sounds tempting, but then we should find out the right time to do it. 5 minutes after posting? 10 minutes?
We would have to do tests to determine it.

Doesn't that sound like a win-win scenario?

That seems great!
In fact, this is the essence of our group from the beginning, so now we must work hard on it.

UPVOTING COMMENTS - WILL IT DIE?

Particularly I have always seen the fact of voting a comment as a gesture of friendship, although many people see it as another way to monetize.

Your friend, Juan

Very interesting the opinions that you manage to accumulate.

I share what the friend @achim03 says, our voting power is in constant variation, when we use it in publications.

I suppose that the value will vary depending on the votes that arrive and the total reward obtained.

On the other hand, community work is essential. I had been commenting on it with close friends before hf21. Few listened to me!

That usually happens in the Spanish-speaking community.

Finally. Thank you for making me part of your project, I am very grateful!

Looking back 2 years, it was already clear that many minnows and other steemers were upvoting the most popular posts. That strategy had not changed much, but now, with HF21, it might become more pronounced.

Whether that will be advantageous to Steemit or detrimental remains to be seen.

In light of that, I was pleased to read your statement about smaller groups and communities. As Steemit grows – and "if" it grows -- that seems like the best way to promote the growth of all and for the benefit of all.

Dear @majes.tytyty

Please check out @project.hope from time to time and support our writers with your valuable upvotes (and perhaps with your time and some comment as well)

We are in new system and after the HF21 I noticed few changes-
Reward reduction in posts and vote value reduced.
Down vote is new entry and for this I am really worried because people might mis-use it.
I did not understand much about the comment reward reduction and may be in coming days we can get more clarity about.

My current goal is to ensure that our community is working fine (on a small scale model). That we support each other and share quality content on our channel.

I will continue to do this and we will grow as community for sure.

thanks @crypto.piotr @project.hope for a nice post.
