Introduction

It's no news that we live in really hard times. As a result of that, most of us have to go the extra mile to earn a living. We work overtime, making us sleep really late.

Sleep is way more important than most of us think. I'll like to quickly outline some of the benefits of sleeping.

• While asleep, the body works hard to ensure the brain functions properly, and physical health is preserved.

• For teenagers and Children, sleep is important for growth and development.

• Sleep helps with learning. It also brings about retentive memory.

How much adequate amount of sleep is beneficial for food health?

The thing is, there's no fixed amount for EVERYONE. Rather, how much sleep you need depends on your age. Below is a list of age brackets and the amount of sleep required.

• Newborns younger than 4 months: Sleep pattern vary depending on the child.

• 4 - 12months : Babies of this age require up to 12 - 16 hours of sleep each day.

• Kids between 1-5 years require at least 10-14 hours of sleep.

• Those between the ages of 6 and 12 are said to require about 9-12 hours of sleep.

• Teenagers require 8-10hours

• Adults need 7-9 hours of sleep.

The above information was gotten from this site link

• Thinking and Memory: Lack of sleep results in the inability to think clearly and focus.

• Lack of sleep can result in susceptibility to cold and some other infections due to the fact that some immune cells are only active at night.

• Reduced physical activity due to tiredness.

• People who don't have enough sleep have a higher risk of heart diseases, obesity, stroke, and even high blood pressure.

• Lastly, experts have revealed that when the brain senses that the body lacks sleep, it begins to eat itself, resulting in brain damage.

Problems that may be caused by excess of sleep.

They include:
• Diabetes

• Obesity

• Headaches: Researchers believe that oversleeping affects neurotransmitters in the brain, leading to headaches.

• Depression: Research has shown that 15% of the people suffering from depression sleep too much. This in turn, worsens their depression.

• Heart Disease: Although lack of sleep causes heart diseases, over sleeping causes it too. Studies have shown that women who sleep 9-11 hours have 38% more chance of getting heart diseases than those who sleep 7-8 hours a day.

• Death: Again, research has shown that people who sleep for 9 hours or longer have a higher death rate than those who sleep for 7 or 8 hours.

Conclusion

We can now see that both oversleeping and lack of sleep can lead to dire consequences. This emphasizes on the need for doing things in a moderate manner. No matter how busy you are, make out time to sleep, but make sure you don't sleep too much cause it means your health and even your life.
