The Customer Is Always Right - Explained
The phrase "The customer is always right" is often misunderstood. In this post I will attempt to explain the concept that it is trying to communicate.

The phrase might be more understandable if you put it this way: "The Customer is always right" with an upper case 'C' instead of a lower case 'c'.
Even better would be: "The aggregate of your customers are always right". This doesn't exactly roll off the tongue nor is it catchy but it better conveys the intent of the concept which is the opinions of your customers as a whole or as a large group is always right.
Think about how many buggy whip manufacturers are out there. Almost none, because very few customers require buggy whips these days. The same goes for CRTs, flip phones, Sears, MySpace and one day, Facebook. The customers, as a whole just do not need these companies anymore.
A single customer therefore is not necessarily right but if there is a large crowd of like-minded individuals then a company would be wise to pay attention.
