Donald Marshall7 February 2019Good afternoon all. Today I went to the farmers market to buy some veggies. Good prices there. While shopping I pass a small mom and pop booth full of foreign spices, sauces, oils and stuff. I went in to look. The people were from some European country and didn’t speak much English. I was looking at the hot sauces. The old man comes up to me and offers me a hot sauce sample he jars himself. I tried it on a popsicle stick. It wasn’t that hot. I shrugged and said “Yeah, it’s ok”. He said “oh you like hot sauce hot”? I said yes. He looked at his wife and says “Marie, get me the 12X”. She turned and looked at him with a blank look on her face, then looked at me and paused a second. She then got an unlabelled small jar from under the counter. She looked scared as she passed it to him. He had a grin on his face said “here, try dis, you like”. I thought wow this must be pretty hot. But with how I can eat really hot stuff I wasn’t very worried. He opened the jar grinning and scooped out a good sized glob on the end for me and passed it to me. His wife looked at it as if he was carefully passing me a live hand grenade. I popped the stuff in my mouth and swished it around, imagining I’d taste a savoury blend of peppers and spices. The old mans grin widened and I thought to myself “perhaps I’ve made a mistake”. Well sweat instantly beaded on my forehead and then almost all over me. I temporarily lost my sense of smell and got light headed. I coughed a bit and then started hiccuping. He passed me a cup of water (which didn’t help) as I tried to talk. Between hiccups I said “What the f&@% is THAT”?! He said “it is mixture of 12 hottest peppers in world, Carolina reaper, ghost pepper, moruga scorpion, brown jolokia and other crazy ones. I sat down and had some milk while the old man rambled on about the variety of peppers and his jarring methods. All I was thinking was “now I know why his wife was looking that way and why he was grinning. I recovered after several minutes. Went home drinking milk and got yogurt to ease the stomach burn. Donald Marshall28 February 2019I was wrongly accused of a crime. Arrested and held on remand in a hard prison, orange jumpsuits and all. In general population surrounded by violent offenders. Laurence Mountford was told by an ex Facebook friend that I was fine, taking time off. I wasn’t fine. I was in prison for ten days. Angels tracked down where I was, bailed me out and saved me. I’ll never take time off like that. At most I’ll miss daily posting by one day. My back and neck are injured from the hard beds in there but otherwise I’m fine. Next time I disappear like that, seek me out. It was quite an experience. I did well in there. The prisoners liked me.
