How To Make A Decent Living From Rising Local Native Chicken:

Hi guys, it's a pleasure to be here with you guys once again. It's has always been my desire to share this little business ideas with you guys for a while now but due to the calculation involved in it has been putting me off, thanks to God I have been able to come up with it finally.

Before I go into details, I will first of all want to encouraged each and everyone of us who have the means and the opportunity, to deeply consider starting a little business of our own. You know Aside from the fact that having a business of your own affords us the chance and opportunity to run it at our time and pace without having to answer yes sir all the time to a fellow human like you it also makes us the boss and master. You know that feeling, joy and happiness that comes with seeing your own business develop little by little until it becomes something huge. Also having a little business of our own can actually go a long way to saving lives during the so called raining days, after all none of us can actually know what tomorrow will brings.

So having said that, let now go back to the main issue at hand, that is how we can make a decent living from raising our local native chicken. At this point one may ask, why local native chicken or hen, what happens to the normal broiler and layers that we all know?
Well depending on the individuals financial ability and resources, a person can choose the so called foreign chicken but for someone who is low on funds but has an enabling environment than I will prefer he or she to try the local chicken for a start than they can now incorporate the foreign chicken if the want to.

Now the details I am going to give here are all subject to change given an individual financial power and also the environment. So now let's say we start the business with just 15 chicken and three male corks.
Now for those of us who may be interested in this line of business, here is a personal analysis, from experience.

I personally started my own with 15 hens and three male corks. Now with this number one can make something very big in just 1 year, that is if you can put in your time and effort into it!

Now this are the details:

Buy 15 hens that are mature and ready to lay eggs and 3 mature cocks.

Now let say you start in this month of September, before the end of this month they 15 chicken must have lay all their eggs.

Now based on my little experience I realise that a native chicken can lay up to 15 eggs each laying cycles but at times more or it can be less than that. But for this write up let use 15 eggs for easier calculation. So after laying the 15 eggs please try and remove 7 eggs and leave 8 for hatching reasons.

(Please note that in this write up I am going to use one full month for each major activities, although some the activities take less than a month)

So before the end of October they 15 hens must have hatch 8 x 15 eggs and that gives us 120 new chicks. Now remember that we removed 7 eggs from the 15, so we have 7 x 15, we have 105 raw eggs for sale.

Now once the new 120 chicks are up to 4 weeks old,( end of Nov) they don't need their mothers again for warmth. So you withdraw the chicks from the mother and rear them by yourself by putting them in house till they are up to 8 week's old (Dec & Jan) before you let them on their own (free range)

This is meant to protect the new chicks from predators such as wild birds that feast on new chicks and to force the mother hen to start laying again. Remember that we are doing business here and not letting nature take its normal course!

During the Feb, the hens take what we refer to as a "Laying break" to adopt to not having their chicks!

By march, the hens start to lay again.
By April, they hatch again.
By May, they rear the chicks (process repeats itself)!

Withdraw the chicks from the mother at the end of June.
During July, they are on the laying break.

   Please Keep This Points In Mind:

(*) If you take care of the chicks in a closed environment away from stray cats and other predators, you should have 5 mature hens for every cycle per hen.

(*) If you able to get 5 mature hens from the 8 eggs hatched that means you have 5x15=75 hens, from the first cycle.

(*) After five laying periods, it is recommended that you sell off the original 15 hens and concrete on the newer ones.

Now there are three full cycles for every hen per year. That means 75x3=225 good new chicken. Plus your original 18 that you used to start the process, you have 243. Plus or minus let's just say 240.

Now it is interesting to note that, by the time the original 15 hens are hatching for the third time in the year, the first 75 batch of chicks from the first hatching period will be ready to start laying their own eggs too.
(50 hens and 25 cocks)
Let say that we have 150 mature new hens from the 240 chicken that we ended business with in our first year. That means we have 150 new hens + the 15 that we use to start business we have 150+15 =165 mature hens and 93 mature cocks total of 165+93=(258) to start business with in year 2.

Now let's say you decide to sell 100 mature birds at the market,
for 3k each, that gives us 300k from the sales of Chicken, We now come to the raw eggs.
From the first laying period we have 7x15=105, now we have 3 laying periods in a year, so we have 105x3=315 eggs in total at the end of year one in the business.
Now let's say you decide to sell 300 eggs for 200 each that gives us 200x300=60k from the sells of eggs.
By the end of year one, we have the following:
()158 chicken: 100 hens and 58 cocks

) Cash at hand: 300k from the sales of Chicken + 60k from the sales of eggs = Total 360k

                YEAR TWO

We begin business with the 15 original hens + the 50 new hens from the first hatching period in year two total 65 mature hens ready to lay eggs. So if we repeat the same process as in year one we have the following:

8x65 = 520 new chicken, plus 7x65 = 455 raw eggs for sale: from just the first laying period in year 2. Now we have 3 laying periods in a year, so we have the following at the end of year 2:
520 x 3 = 1560 new chicken
455 x 3 = 1365 raw eggs for sale.

Yes from the following details so far we can see that we careful planning and dedication we can actually make something meaningful for ourselves within a few years.
