Downvoting Made Easier
What a great improvement to the Steemit platform!
Now that the Flag has been changed to a Downvote, and is right beside the Upvote, it makes it even easier for a Downvote war to start on this platform.
Changing the Flag to a Downvote was the right way to go, but it should at least be made available only after clicking on the article, to stop lazy Downvoters who probably never read your post in full.
We have all witnessed the "Flag Wars" of the past, which was not a good thing when trying to promote Steemit. We had a period when the Steemit self-appointed Nazi Police went around destroying newcomers reputations in a most brutal and arrogant way, which was terrible to witness and put the Steemit reputation backwards.
Disagreement on Rewards? Miscategorised Content? are these really good reasons to Downvote?
Promote through Positivity.
If you disagree with someone's opinion, then ignore the post or comment, as you wish, Downvoting has a destructive effect and should only be used as a last resort!

I can also see where it could be a problem. Thankfully, I don't get involved and have not been in any "flag wars" ...but it does make it easier for people to misuse it, agreed.

Not really, room for improvement.
Unfortunately it doesn't change the disproportionate imbalance between the values of one person's vote vs that of another. I understand that the platform is built around the concept of rewarding "contributors" but they isn't how it's gone in practice. Someone that has a bit of money to sink in has more Power with 1 vote thousands of minnows combined. It sort of goes against the concept of what crypto I'd meant to stand for. Decentralization, equality, egalitarianism, etc

I agree. It should be after they open the article. Otherwise they might downvoted you based on first impression only
