Missed Pigeon Island!

Early in the morning we left to Nilaweli beach with the idea of visiting pigeon island. Nilaweli is also one of the most attractive beaches in sri lanka which had a huge traffic of tousirits as well. Our idea of visiting pigeon island was vanished due to many reasons.

I will say why. As the first thing you have to pay 8000 LKR for the boat which take you to the island. Also you have to pay 1000 for each, as a entrance fee at the Nialweli beach.You have to pay another 1000LKR for the one who take you to visit the island. If you do snorkling you have to pay another 1000 LKR for each for the snorkling kit. Also you have to pay 1500 for each at the entrance of the island. That was beyond our budjet and I said No even though we have the possibility to go there.

Still I think amount they charged for the boat and amount they aksed for their efforts are totally fine. But those entrance fees taken by the government are quite unfair for the local visitors. I remember one of the people who rides boats to the pigeon island said that Nilaweli was his life and due to this higer charges they are losing their living. I felt so sorry for him.

I must say this. If we were able to visit pigeon Island and had the snorkling experience that would be an amazing experience for us. But I have no worries on this and I was eargerly waiting to visit Kantale tank and the beautiful water stream then!
