Good Days at Ayati

On those Orientation days I got to know about that there is a national centre for children with disabilities. Once I've went there and these days it's my clinical unit. Ayati is the national centre for children with disabilities, in Sri Lanka, which is situated in Ragama. There are no ward patients there, all the little kids are coming from their homes.

I was wonder to see such a nice, calm and well maintained hospital with all the facilities. If you get a chance to walk even along a corridor in the Ayati centre you will experience the difference between Ayati centre and any government hospital.

Children around all over the country come to this hospital and they all are warmly welcome by the staff. Consultants, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists are doing their maximum to give a normal life to this little precious lives.

There are two senior occupational therapists there, who are already retired but still coming for serving this little lives for free! Their love, kindness and genuine efforts will remain in my heart as the take home memory.

Everyday many kids visit the hospital with their parents. Most commonly Autism, CVI, Cerebral palsy and children with learning disabilities directly contact with the occupational therapy unit. In the hospital they conduct a educational training centre for children with learning disabilities. Still I can not stop my heart get hurting for their parents and their struggles. Anyhow the centres like "Ayati" is giving hopes for their broken hearts and the broken hopes as well.

May that all precious lives achieve what they deserve! May all of them be healthy and happy!
