Days @Ragama Rehabilitation Hospital

Waking up early than the other days, getting ready, saying good bye to my still sleeping friend and running to the Maradana railway station was the the main things in my past two weeks' morning routine. Most of the time I had to take my breakfast at the railway station, as I was so hungry in the morning.

All the people who had clinical practices in Ragama, gathered to the station. As I had some friends and my book it wasn't a hard journey. On the other hand I love to travel by train.

Paediatric unit

There are two rehabilitation hospitals as neighbours, one is for the army and the other one is for public. There are four main occupational therapy units in Ragama, where all the rehabilitation treatments are being done.

My first unit was the unit which is for stroke patients and there I could apply my theory knowledge practically. Exercises is the main treatment method for stroke patients, which bring them to their normal lives back. It may seems simple, but it's doing a complex healing process within your body.

Next day I was working at the paediatric unit, which is for children. Most of the babies are cerebral palsy(mostly a developmental delay) patients and we have to wait patiently until they recover with the exercises and activities. Unfortunately some little patients will never recover.

Spinal cord injury occupational therapy unit is another main unit, which is doing it's best for the patients whose spinal cord is injured. To learn how important your spinal cord is, you should go there and see by your own eyes. I will share my knowledge on it by a separate article.

I learnt many things during that clinical visit. Both the theory knowledge and practical knowledge are very very important to handle and treat a patient one day and this is da only way we are having it.
