SALVATION AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH.

Growth is for the living. Every living thing is expected to grow unless otherwise there is a growth challenge. Life in the physical experiences physical growth; However, there is another life called spiritual life. When one is born into the world of existence, this is physical birth. There is another birth called NEW birth.

We experience this NEW birth the day we receive Christ in our lives and we are born into the kingdom of God as babies. Just like natural babies, we are expected to grow from the state of newborn babies to adult Christians. In every local church where majority of her members are baby Christians, the pastor and leaders will spend much of their time preparing milk instead of meat.

God wants us to grow after salvation. The word of God is recommended as one of the means of our growth. For one to live spiritually, he has to feed on the word of God. It brings the knowledge of God into our lives and 2 Peter 3:18 asks us to grow in the knowledge of God.

That means, spiritual growth comes from feeding our spirit with God’s word. It is unfortunate though that many Christians feed their bodies with three meals daily; but their spirits are left unfed for days, still wondering why they are not strong in faith.

How to feed upon God’s Word:

Paul told Timothy that meditating on God’s Word produces many profits. This meditation should be like a goat that takes as much grass at a time, but sits to chew the grass for a long time. Reading the word is not feeding on the word, but sitting down quietly to think upon the word you have read is meditation. This will enlarge your heart and build your spiritual strength.

When we are growing spiritually; it will reflect in our ability to discover and abide in the will of God, that is, love one another, grow in holiness, patience and engage in every good work. It is only those who spend time daily to feed their spirit that will experience rapid spiritual growth in the Lord.

The bread of life is Christ, and he is the true manna from Heaven. Spiritual growth is why we’re branches of the True Vine (Christ Jesus).
