You can see it in the long-term errs, the way they move the way they act, they've live their lives in environment of loud night time pickled in alcohol and seasoned with Smokey bars. It's look that you can't fake and probably wouldn't want to that takes years to develop and as a language that goes right along with it. There's a pact that musicians make with a spirit of the music that they'll walk along with the Rhythm and let it talk then into the night.

It's a siren song and each segment has its own looking language. Blues is the Hard Road mixed with a ginger Rock and some high flying guitar sickles the edge off your hearing and puts gravel in your voice. The night life takes its toll and everyone knows the old adage about putting the expensive equipment in the El cheapo car and driving 200 miles for a $50 gig.

The Jazz world is easier going at least at the levels that I play the game on. I like the music scene because it acts out every aspect of life innocent aerio at once so important and yet so unimportant the mundane and the miraculous all at once. When I went back into music after my long hiatus I was determined to learn the upright Bass because that wouldn't take me back into the old rock and country scene where the noise smoke and alcohol had begun to damage my sensibilities, which is nothing to say do the people who love to live there more power to them as long as they live in peace.

The complexity of jazz music and first the American Songbook and then the more modern compositions take a studious effort or a miraculous ear to capture. And there's always the temptation to try to measure yourself against others something to which you'll come up short. But the gig space is much easier and the kind of jobs you take tend to be more classy in interesting if the background music and full of attentive audience when you're in the foreground, and it seems you always find a level of your own audience to the extent that you keep at it and that's a developed Foundation, an architecture a spend effort taking physical form.

Yeah so do a little dance, dress up for the occasion, put on a show, make nice to the people, being reliable and show up and take care of your own equipment. That and the circle of fourths will get you a long way in this game.
