Living to your greatest potential

The question was posed for the @Tribesteemup members

Do you believe there is a huge waste of human potential in the world? And if so what can we do to help people tap into it?

My response...

As a parent I wanted to have the best for my child, I love to see him grow to his greatest potential in his own unique way!

That is a big thing that none of us are alike, each of us has our own capabilities and unique possibilities.

In myself I have found I am more capable than I had thought. It is being able to see that potential in yourself and in others (if you are to mentor or guide them), then you can begin to unearth that potential, actuate that potential.

There is scientific and medical evidence to show that your body and your brain work best when you are experiencing a joyful or at least pleasant state. Here is one here

So if concerned about living to your fullest potential it may be best to focus on how to get to those joyous states, harness your physiological and psychological process and have your body work for you not against you! And with some understanding that how we experience life come from within, we can begin to create the kind of experience that we want! So take charge, for it is in your hands. Work to be more conscious and build your awareness, letting there be more joy and growth!
Turn inward, that is where you can make changes and that is where the source of your joy or misery is - within you.

So what will it be?

Will you be joyful or miserable, peaceful or disturbed?

Here is a good saying from Sadhguru, taken from his book Inner Engineering -

If you are concerned about the world, the first thing you need to do is to transform yourself into a joyful being

We are human beings with a certain potential, just as a seed contains the potential to grow into a full fledged tree. Nature has provided us with an instinctual way of being (functioning). If we can take responsibility (remain open to being able to respond), and if we can use our intrinsic intelligence, cultivating joyfulness, this will serve us when we try to act in the world. There are many forces at play in the world and things will not always go our way. If we have some level of joy we will not be effected by it as much and we can choose to use our time and energy more towards fulling our potential.

Bring that energy up to a certain level of intensity and you can do many different things. If you put in the right effort it makes for greater possibilities!

Use that effort to live more consciously, build your awareness and guard against getting caught up in compulsive cycles, wasting your energy!

Ask yourself:

Are the compulsions of my body, emotions or thoughts ruling me?

It is with more consciousness that you can break those compulsive patterns! Begin by looking into the nature of the problem -

Why are you compulsive and what exactly, is compulsive about you? What does it mean to be compulsive?

Gain some understanding of compulsiveness, which although is a part of our being, is best used as a base. We want to guide our actions not have compulsiveness rule us!

How do you spend your time?

How much living are you really doing? Life is happening. Have you captured a substantial amount of life? Are you living it consciously or unconsciously? Will you be able to say you lead a rich and full life?

There is nothing sadder than to come to the end of your life and see that a good part of it was wasted, you were only living up to a small percent of your potential.

So how much of a life will you have?

There are certain realities of our time which will determine what we can do or what experiences we have but ultimately you determine the experience within yourself and there is so much possibility, possibility to be manifested!

Life has an openness, how will you respond? Will you remain open and pick up on inspirations, motivations, will you pick up skills that have utility? What of humanity, will you develop a sense of love and compassion for your fellow human beings?

Will you realize what you, as a human being, are capable of - really it is quite open ended (without limits). Living and acting more consciously gives a chance for more possibilities to open up!

A big take away that I got from watching the video below with Sadhaguru (I'd recommend watching it for more insights on fulfilling your potential) is -

It's not the contents that you put in your life but the context in which you live it!

Here's to living to your greatest potential!

A lovely response @porters. I think it's really hard sometimes because we get distracted by stuff. I don't want to get to the end of my life and regret anything but I think sometimes that's inevitable - i would have loved a degree in Western Herbal Medicine, for example, but at this stage I can't afford it! But we DO have so much potential - we just have to break down all those layers of conditioning that stop us being the best we can be. xx

That is the thing and remembering the past is the past - we can not change that but we can go forward living more conciously and breaking through those barriers that keep us from living to our greatest potential!
I took a herbology course, although I never wanted to set up a practice as a herbologist, I just wanted the knowledge and to be able to use it for me and my family and to who ever else may be presented to me - I am happy to share my knowledge!
I do feel fortunate that I built a bit of a relationship to my teacher and actually had her stay at my house for a bit when she was doing a medicine herb walk at a local gathering.
She was into deep ecology at the time and I had never heard of it but soon learned - a good philosophy!

A wonderful post Sadhguru is incredible his wisdom is astounding thanks for sharing. I like to think I am not wasting my life although I spend far to much time on here. But that could be argued as build community for change 💯🐒

I had never heard of Sadhguru before until my husband started playing some of the video interviews of him and I began to appreciate his wisdom!
I too, wonder about all the time i am spending here but I do feel the building of these communities and some of the things they can accomplish is important.

right you are and it's blooming freezing outside haha 💯🐒

I think the first thing is a willingness to learn, to change, to know more; after that it's easy..

Yes! Being open and receptive and with a joyful attitude let's the growth happen.
