RETROfocus: "The Middle Class Conundrum"
«-World One-»
Alright! first of all, let me tell you that my latest post was five days ago on the HIVE blockchain. And yeah, I have to tell you that my absence here and also over there, since then, certainly it has not been entirely my fault. Yeah I have had a few issues lately!
Yeah! I've had a few dreadful issues, that by the by, are not Hot News nor so unknown by many who follow my blog and even less unknown for those who like me also live where I live. A very beautiful and nice country btw.
A gorgeous place in the Caribbean area where suddenly and continuous power outages also use to happen pretty often. And without the electricity, it's not so rare we also lose all our capacity to get and work online. No, not even with our smart phones with a full charged battery. Simply because the 4G signal of our Telco also use to go to hell jointly with our hopes to be able to work and produce incomes those days of darkness.
But yeah, okay, maybe I'm just digressing now a little bit with this callous preamble to the main subject of this post today. Or who knows? maybe not.
So that odd judgment, I will left that to your own discretion. The only and further thang I'll add right now is that everything has a reason to be what it is. And within my usual odd posts, this time is not gonna be an exception.
However, before go ahead. Let me also mention one nice and surprising thing that I got in that last post. Curiously and astoundingly enough, I was finally able to obtain great engagement and interaction in one of my posts.
Holy Moly! that, five days old post, was able to attract 126 comments so far. Which for me is a real rarity in the four years that I've been wandering over here. And while it certainly hasn't gotten many upvotes or monetary rewards, I feel pretty happy with the interaction and comments. Hurrah!
Ok, with all that already said, now let's get into the matter of what this post today is all about. Although before proceeding, please also allow me to warn you that you may notice a lil bit of my grumpy mood due my recent state of forced abstinence to be able to work and generate incomes for five days. I swear this was not my intention. I still owe lotta replies in that post.
And I will reply to all those comments as soon as I can. I promise! };)
Ok, the main subject today is:
"The Middle Class Conundrum"
Yeah, I apologize beforehand if this post does not look very cheerful and uplifting. But I suspect that despite my unlucky experience during these last five days, at least this post prolly will feel like a natural follow up on the subject of my last post. Just tell me if you think my suspicion is right.
The thing is that although I couldn't post during these ugly last five days. At midnight, when the electricity returned for a few hours and with it also the internet access with a relatively decent trickle of bandwidth. At least I was able to READ some posts from some people there in Hive in which I could also notice a recurring worrisome theme. A brief glimpse into the future.
As for example this post from @jrcornel and also this other post from my friend @tarazkp. Both quite known personalities on Hive of whom, in my opinion, have always been and usually look optimistic in most of their posts. However, in these posts, they seem to have tuned-in a little more in other types of possible realities. In a kaleidoscope of multiple possibilities.
Which immediately and somewhat inspired me to think about the middle class. Yeah, more specifically about how the middle class are perceiving themselves in a country, in a society, in a community, in the internet, in an online platform, in the blockchain or wherever it be these strange days.
Is the Middle Class perceiving themselves nowadays like a Poorer version of Rich or like a Richer version of Poor?
I suppose that depending of how the middle class in a country, place, platform or whatever perceives itself, it clearly can be indicative of the country’s, place's or platform's future. ¿Am I right?
I have the hunch that if the middle class thinks of themselves as a poorer version of the rich, it augurs well for the growth of the country, place and platform. Conversely, if they think of themselves as just richer versions of the poor, it may well does not have a bright future.
Ok, ok, I concur with you that this post may well have already exceeded the patience and will to READ of the great majority of the population here. But I also think that it will never hurt to keep trying. Should I keep trying?
So, alright. I will close this article with a link to an additional post from my friend @angryman to round out the trilogy of links toward the posts of other Hiveians where I got the inspiration to write this long rant here.
But now beware, because right next comes the biggest warning of all the warnings throughout this article. Since I plan to culminate this post with an outstanding old documentary that can be a lil bit harsh and crude for some to grasp and swallow. So, you've been warned!
And that despite having been produced and featured 52 years ago, in my opinion, it seems today more relevant, revealing and current than ever.
«The Hour of the Furnaces»
This is a 264 minutes full documentary. And this video that I have shared above is only the first chapter of three other additional chapters of videos with a duration of 1:24:56min. Narrated in Spanish with Eng/Ita/Fre subs. Enjoy!!

I agree the middle class is almost invariably the engine of a country, as the lower income classes will typically lack the purchasing power required to move the needle, while the rich entails in niche activities that - albeit moving a lot of capital - are oftentimes geared towards localized growth rather than country development. The wealth of the middle class is generating momentum due to their larger footprint and comparably significant spending capacity, so that's where one should be looking at.
How the middle class perceives themselves can make a big difference in the kind of motivation that is directing this momentum, either towards development or devolution.
Certainly. And not only of a country, but also of an entire human ecosystem no matter how small or large.
Yep! that's right. Isn't this 'anomaly' a pretty interesting one as indicator of Human Evolution?
Elementary! Without an increasing big mass of docile & dumb consumers who blindly consume everything with no questioning, the richest wouldn't have enough blood, sweat & tears to squeeze as to be able to build a profitable bizniz. According to them, I suspect we actually need some kind of aspirational social class, of some sort, all the time, to keep 'this current world' spinning. Isn't it?
Mm-hmm! so, what's your conclusion?
Is the Middle Class perceiving themselves nowadays like a Poorer version of Rich or like a Richer version of Poor?
Thank you for your thoughtful comment brother! :)
You are doing well but i believe there is lesser content of yours than the amount of talks and posts you are sharing with us through links.
We would love to see more if you bring us more of quality content :)
There is lesser content of my own verbiage? Bring more "quality content' with my own prose?
Haha bro. To find out some of that you would love, you just have to take a true deepdive scrolling down the rabbit hole that my vintage prehistoric blog really is. You will discover a ton of "quality content" down there with a humongous amount of talks exclusively shed from my own convoluted brain and exquisite typing only. Hahahaha
I see you are not so new on steemit. However, I also see that you haven't posted much so far and prolly you haven't paid much attention to what happens here around you either.
But what I can clearly perceive is the fact that this must be the first time that you have come across a post of mine. At least one that you have read it and also commented on it. A thing by which I'm grateful and I appreciate very much. :)
So for now, I'm just going to invite you to take on the challenge of diving further to the bottom of my blog and that after you select and read some of my other older posts, come back here and confirm that you still think the same that you have expressed in this comment.
Cheers!!
Ohh yes i am sorry
People.can have different perspectives, each with his own and that can be unique :)
Yes rhis might probably beyours first post that crossed my mind :p
Hope to see more future interactions with you :p
Yours well wishing :) ❤
Your sentence that the middle class is the poor version of the rich or the richest version of the poor is wonderful.
It certainly makes us think about what the middle class really is today. For me only the illusion of acting as a watershed between two worlds opposite each other with the hope that at any moment we can find ourselves part of the rich class and the constant fear of finding ourselves poor.
Of course, the purchasing power of the middle class varies from country to country but my experience and personal feeling today makes me see a worsening of the condition of this category everywhere, the increase in prices does not go hand in hand with the increase in salaries so the dream of being the middle class fades more and more.
