[Homeless] binnacle of an odyssey. Some thoughts & reflections between the actions.

in #venezuela5 years ago (edited)

It is my belief that moral reasoning is an art rather than a science. This means that one must seek to develop their innate sense of beauty, relief, proportion, and meaning before attempting to consistently act with moral purpose.

Above all, one should turn towards their own experience of the world in order to inform their understanding of the whys and wherefores of proper action. In lieu of experience, however, the tales of others can serve as an aid to one's understanding. In this vein, I offer these tales and experiences on my three previous posts, which might lend themselves a few building blocks to your own edification.

«The hare and the tiger»

What a disappointment had the young man of this story. His absolute bitterness was due the inhuman way in which almost all people behave. Apparently, no one cared anymore.

One day taking a walk around the bushes, he saw surprised that a small hare was bringing food to a huge badly wounded tiger, which could not fend for himself.

He was so impressed to see this fact, that he returned the next day to see if the behavior of the hare was casual or habitual. With great surprise he could see that the scene was repeated: The hare always left a good piece of meat near the tiger everyday.

The days passed and the scene was repeated in an identical way, until the tiger regained his strength and was able to find the food on his own.

Admired by the solidarity and cooperation among the animals, he said to himself: "Not everything is lost... If animals, which are inferior to us, are capable of helping each other in this way, much more we will do it."

And he decided to do the experience: He threw himself on the ground, pretending that he was hurt. And started to wait for someone to come by and help him. The hours passed, the night came and nobody came to his aid. He was like this during the whole other day. He was about to get up, much more disappointed than when we started reading this story, with the conviction that humanity had no hopes.

He felt within himself:

The desperation of the hungry. The loneliness of the sick. The sadness of abandonment. His heart was devastated. He had almost no desire to get up, then there, in that instant, he heard from the middle of nowhere... a melodious voice, who deep inside him said:

"If you really want to find your fellows. If you want to feel that everything has been worth it. If you want to continue believing in humanity, capable to find your fellow human beings as brothers..."

Stop being the tiger and just be the hare!!

Moral of the story:

  • 1.- As difficult or impossible as a situation may seem, we should never stop looking for an exit or fight until the last moment to find it.

  • 2.- Go with the crowd and your reputation is secure. Be your own man and you must fight for what you deserve.
