Silver Nickel
Look what I've found lying around the house, a 1945-S nickel.
This isn't an ordinary nickel, it's a wartime nickel. The U.S. needed nickel for the war effort so between 1943 and 1945 nickels consisted of 56% copper, 35% silver and 9% manganese. It very easy to spot wartime nickel because of the big mint mark on the back. In this case, the big "S" above Monticello stands for the San Francisco mint.
After the war the nickels went back to being 75% copper and 25% nickel.
Kool find.
Not something you see every day.
:D
I used to collect coins when I was a kid so I would always check my change for some rarity.
I read a blog where some guy would order rolls of half dollars and check if any where dated before 1965, they where made of silver then.
Yeah its called roll hunting.
I have a friend that still does that about once a month.
goes into the bank and buys a grand in dollar coins then saves the 3-5 silver ones he finds and returns them.
lol
I have a bag of old coins i collected when i was young but that are all like old arcade coins and old subway tokens and stuff like that.
noting of real value.
:D
