Would you get the same effect on a boat floating in water?
Would the buoyancy of the boat change with the cycles of the gyro?
hmmmm only one way to find out! (But I think would behave the same on a boat and the buoyancy wouldn't change).
If it works the same on a smooth bottom boat with no fins, then it might have potential as a means of propulsion in outer space. Changing and controlling inertia of a space craft via internal gyro dynamics.
You could just place the whole apparatus in a large bowl or pan and float it on water.
