Yeah, it could be very interesting! Though I'm not sure how I feel about using my primary Steemit account for it, because these little 'Tweet'-like messages might clog up my blog feed. I think a seperate, Zappl account might be handy here :-)
I am a little bit skeptical about the zappl.. I learned that when your username is on people's auto vote list, it's not Ideal to post more than twice a day. But if zappl has the same similarities of tweet that means users can post more than five content in a day. We all know what that means to minnows trying to gather their steem power.
My thoughts though
Yeah, I agree with your worries. My little 'Zap' received a couple of auto-upvotes aswell I think, while the text was really small. I don't receive high auto-upvotes, but what if a whale started using this site? He/she would receive hundreds of dollars in upvotes for every little message they send out. That just doesn't feel right.
I also don't like how they appear in my own blog feed. Definitely needs some extra work and thinking before it can be really useful and accepted. Would be awesome if Steem and Zappl could live side-by-side, instead of on one and the same blockchain.
