Ark - Horses and unicorns

in #gaming8 years ago

Let me tell you about the new friends we've found since we made the move to the highlands on Ark's Ragnarok map.

The highlands in Ark have many hills, but also big expanses of grass. Grassy hills! Besides the regular dinosaurs, these grassy hills are also filled with horses. To tame them, you need carrots!

You have to put your carrots into the last slot of your utilities bar and then sneak up to one of them. Once you're close enough (and you didn't spook it off), you'll be able to feed the horse a carrot and you can climb on up to start riding it. The horse will run around like crazy, so it's safer for you to first clear agressive dinosaurs in the area. Once in a while, you're able to feed the horse a carrot while riding it. If you don't do this fast enough, it'll throw you off. After a certain amount of carrots (depending on its level), the horse becomes yours and you can ride it without a sadle. You can also make a sadle for it, which will act as a mortar and pestle.

At the beginning of our new adventure in the highlands, I managed to find and tame a horse:

Taming takes a long time in Ark and it annoys me to have to wait so long, so I upped the taming speed on our private map. In the case of horses, this basically means that feeding it one carrot is enough to make it yours.

Just when I was done taming my first horse, my boyfriend asked me for a couple of carrots. He had seen a horse he wanted to tame. It wasn't long after, that I found out it wasn't just any horse...

It was a unicorn!

Unicorns are rare in Ark. So rare that as far as I've read, there is only one unicorn on the map at all times. You could transfer one over or use some code to spawn another one, but when played regularly, there's only one.

As you can imagine, I begged my boyfriend to give the unicorn to me!

He then tamed another horse for himself, so now we have three horses! I figured they'd need a feeding trough, so I builed them one and gave them their own little spot at the foot of the lighthouse:

How cowboy-ish of us, right?

It looks perfect! My boyfriend wanted to build them a stable, but I love to see them standing outside at the feeding trough, so I don't want a stable. I do still want to catch more horses and put them in the enclosure we build a little ways down the hillside.

Oh yes, I love the looks of our new place and the animals it brings! We've also tamed a couple of other dinosaurs, but I'm letting them roam free. We'll probably lose a couple, but I like the idea of them just wandering around the area.

More stories later!

Unicorns? Seriously? The Ark is really a mix of everything... I miss only the evolutional stage of a man to shake hands with a neanderthal. Or is there some?
And I agree that the taming is terribly annoying, I will try to assert the modification of server because there is no need to pretend to be hardcore players. It just leads to arguments :D

Yes, I was very excited when I heard about unicorns on the map! I'm not sure what maps they are available though.

I think there are some walking monkey/man creatures in Ark, though I'm not sure what exactly they are called!

Yeah, taming takes very long. I remember when we were playing on another server, we would tame a flyer, but we'd have to build a couple of campfires to keep us warm throughout the night. It took so long! I figured toning down the taming time wouldn't take away anything from the actual game :D

I've seen some monkeys somewhere on the internet, but it was probably some kind of Yeti... or Big Foot? :D

A similar problem we had with taming metal farmers at the highest mountain on the Island. We were there in the afternoon and then became night, and it was so cold that we were dying slowly :D @grimmyx faster than me because he likes to run naked so that he can port us at any time not losing his stuff. Fortunately, we had a bed there, so it was easier to die than to stay alive as long as possible. But we tamed them!
Making taming faster would definitely help, and probably we will increase the number of farmed resources because we always run out of them very quickly.

When there's a possibility to make a few changes, why not to use it!

and probably we will increase the number of farmed resources because we always run out of them very quickly.

Aye, I've upped those too! My boyfriend loves building huge houses, so increasing the number of farmed resources helps him a lot.

I don't like 'cheating' in a game much, but I figure these adjustments just make the game more fun to play. It's our own private instance of the game anyway :D

Definitely! We played it by default until now and didn't get anywhere. We are just furious all the time :D

Haha, yeah I did enjoy the challenge when we first started out and got to learn the game. After a while though, you just want to get on with it and go explore interesting things :D

It's true, but when exploring there are so many troubles. Once we went on a trip with flyers, we forgot the bed, so we had to go back home to get it, and on the way back to our new place something attacked boyfriend's flyer because that idiot flew too low... :D So he got an aggressive seizure and turned off the game. If we'd rather stay home... :D

Awww no! That's a sad ending to a gaming session :D

To be honest here, i haven't rode on any horse in my entire life yet there are horses close to me but that shit scare me off. Although, the horses sre i do see here arenot welfed maybe that is even why i haven't tried it out before. They don't take a good care of their horses only tk make mkney from it which is hot fair at all. Yes, i am from Nigeria and staying in the northern part of the country. These horses shown are so beautiful and attractive.

Aww poor horses :-(
I don't think I ever rode a big horse, but I used to ride shetland ponies when I grew up in a small town. I loved doing that.

The horses in the Ark game are very pretty and I like that we can ride them ingame :-)

Very nice. if i only i have their pjotographs with me, i would have shown them to you, believe me, it will irritate you. But hoping to ride in a good environment someday.

ARK has unicorns now? Is that in the main game or is it a mode? I didn't know about it, i thought that ark only had dinossaurs...

The Ragnarok map has unicorns. Or well, horses in general and as a bonus: one unicorn per server. The Scorched Earth map also has horses, but I'm not sure if it has a unicorn.

Ark has mostly dinosaurs, yes, but there are a couple of other creatures aswell. There's mosquittos, monkeys, fishes, snakes, wolves, sabletooth tigers, etc.. Still, the main thing is dinosaurs :-)

Didn't know that, ARK is really amazing, i remember when i was 8, dinosauros were so cool and i wanted a game just like ARK! I really need to get my hands on that...
BTW, why don't you stream on dlive your ark server? i bet you would get lots of SBD

I really need to get my hands on that...

I can definitely recommend it! Add it to your wishlist on steam, so you can find it in a sale one day :D

Hmm, I never really looked into dlive yet to be honest. There's also the thing of me not speaking while streaming, so I'm not sure how interesting it would be to look at.

hahaha I do not understand why all the girls have a fascination for unicorns haha but it's fine :)

The game looks fun! It reminds me a little bit of Skyrim (my favorite game of all time).

Is Ark a rpg with open world right?

I am looking for games to play, because I haven’t play in like a year, right now I am starting to play civilization VI which is a game I have been wanting to try for so long.

But rpg has always been my favorite type of games.

Cheers!

Ark is an open world survival game which you can play solo, on a public server, or you can host your own server and let friends play on it :-)

I played Skyrim for a while and it was awesome! I still want to buy it some day when I can find a good deal on it. I tend to like rpg's aswell. I mostly played mmorpg's in my life. I also go back to Heroes of Might and Magic 4 from time to time! Never played a Civilization game though...

Wonderful photo shoot sis <3 @playfulfoodie
