Week 1 (August 2018)

Welcome to Domains in the Wild. In this series I post images of domain names that I've spotted out and about in the real world. Then I write a bit about what I think of each one. It's easy to miss domain names, but they're all around us and play a key role in a companies branding, messaging and design. Spotting them and taking a photo is sort of a fun hunting game to play while you're out and it takes very little effort once you start looking for them. Once you start to play, you will notice that you begin to notice them more without even trying.

If you catch any yourself, please share them with us all in the comments.

Without further delay, here are the domain names that I found in the wild recently...

The Domains

This first domain is DisplayCostume.com which is a costume and party supply store. I found it here on their rather large sign outside on the side of their building. I like this domain name, it's a short 2 word .com and uses keywords that people might search for as well as describes some of what they offer.

Next is QualitySewing.com. It's a Sewing & Vacuum shop with just over a dozen locations in Washington State. I like this domain name for the same reasons as the last one. Short 2 word .com with great keywords and says what they do.

Finally, we have SalonCentric.com. From what I can tell it's a salon and supply chain that does hair and nails as well as sell beauty products. It's a good domain name, 2 words and ends in the preferred .com extension. It's also literally their company name word for word, so it's a must own for them. I'm always amazed when you find a company that is somewhat large but doesn't own their exact match company name in .com. Salon Centric does. Good on them.

That concludes this edition of Domains in the Wild.
