RE: [Bitcoin Price] New breakout
Chart guys are cool I like them. Interesting how the volatility of the Rand and btc combine. But they should have a self regulating effect on the rand price of btc. Why, because btc and rand are both seen as risky assets. So if there is a flight to safety (if nk does something stupid) people will move out of btc and out of the rand. so dollar price of btc will go down and rand will get weaker.
this is a simple explanation. could also have exacerbating effect on each other. How? Well, if there is risk appetite and high optimism, as is the case now in general with Trump in the White House (all time highs of the Dow Jones), then what happens? First of all cc's like btc price will increase a lot. But also rand may get weaker or at least not get that much stronger as you would expect (inflow into emerging markets). The reason I saw that is because big global pension funds like calpers (California govt pension fund) will in that case withdraw rands in favour of more risky high yield assets. South Africa used to be the go to destination for emerging market destined money because it is liquid and was always volatile so they could play with it a little. also it would count as an emerging market in foreign pension fund regulation but is arguably not really an emerging market because its financial sector is so sophisticated. but that is changing now. debt downgrades from the ratings agency has got us at or near junk status. not only the govt debt but also the state owned enterprises debt.
Luckily the rand has gotten less volatile recently because of increased foreign exchange regulation. So the big guys in the world even big investment banks in New York can't just manipulate our currency for their own benefit.
Bitcoin price has just past $5100. To buy Bitcoin now is a more expensive than last week, but if you want to move your money from Rands to Steem, it is at a week low. I use this website: https://www.coingecko.com/en/price_charts/steem/zar/30_days
So if you want to buy steem, now is a very good time even if you have to buy Bitcoin first and the exchange to Steem.
Thanks for the info!
